Hi Mark

This machine really brings back a lot of memories for me. They are of course Zanussi machines, it's identical in many ways to my S218T.

These machines are quite heavy and solid, even more so than the original British Hotpoints. I remember this being pretty stable on spin. The only let down on these machines is the spin performance, I think the spin was only around 500rpm, (Mark are you able to confirm)?

They were very quiet having induction motors. I remember they were quite heavy on water too! I love the purple door, very retro! Although in practical terms they dated quickly and I don't remember seeing many Liberators in the 80s. Of course the other thing was the amount you could see through the door, which was very little in low light.

Thanks for posting Mark, if you ever can do a vid it would be very much appreciated but I know how much work they are.

Loving the purple!

Hey Mark

Great to see the purple Italia-point - I remember seeing one of those as a kid in Ireland. Hope all is good with you!

Rob -
I wonder how long Hotpoint imported the Zanussi machines? I think they brought these machines in at a stage in the 70s when they were re-organising production and had closed a facility for some reason (I think I recall mention of a fire stopping production at some stage) - perhaps someone out there knows. Hotpoint retained a number of EE terms like reversomatic and so forth.

The Liberator term was used for a very short time in the 70s, presumably to lure over former English Electric users when that brand was amalgamated and ultimately dropped. I have a service book for the 1509-15972 models somewhere that gives dates, but the Liberator term was only around for a few years before 70s purple changed 80s brown - shame really...such a cool styling...

liberator

hey ,yup it is indeed a 520rpm to be exact, its working perfect,it looks rusty in the pics but there not actually bad rust marks just little bubbles,iv just wheeled it into my kitchen and its drying out by the aga so il be posting new pics over the week end with it all cleaned up,il get a few vids up asap prob on a white wash as you can see the wash action better through the purple, its exactly the same drum, pully and design as the S218t(ive 3 of these!)bar i think the S218t is far more solid as the cabinet is of a slightly different design, neway im waffling,il have them up soon, enjoy the weekend lads, and if yer ever in Ireland feel free to give me a shout
