The seller is probably right about the tile being rather rare, has anyone seen this before?

I've passed through alot of Flairs on CL in the past two years or more - and never saw that tile...but the sides are rougher looking than most Flairs I've seen, too.

that an owner added the tile at some point, it may have been metal (stainless?) or wood cutting board originally?

Because at least the Flair is Electric, I think you are correct Roger the tile was likely installed in place of the wood cutting board that was there originally.
