There certainly are plenty of those for sale around here, I noticed lately. All supposedly work. Considering that a new one is about $1,000, I think that the giveaway prices speak for themselves.

I would trade two of those for one DD Whirlpool 27" set. The problem is, I doubt anyone would make the other side of that trade.

Gigantic Skini-Minis

Other than the lack of the "Agitub" these were made identical to the 24inch WCI version of the old Frigidaire Skini-Mini stacked (not stackable)washer dryers. Other than the indexing type agitation,the washer parts worked o.k. and their capacity was greater than the Whirlpools and Maytags. Because they made so many of these units for other manufacturers,the selling price and the fact that,at the time these came out,most folks wanted the top loading washers over the front loading ones that cost 25% more and were not as easy to load and unload.I myself would not ever be interested for numerous reasons.I do not like top loading washers,I do not like wasting water,I do not like to pollute streams and lakes,and I like quiet machines.Lint build up,hot spots and plastic inner tubs are not my favorite either.If I had to have a stacked unit,it woulkd be either a fRIGIDAIRE Afinity or an L.G.Steam washer/dryer with the square windows.

Well, I wouldn't take an affinity or LG steam washer unless it was given to me. I don't like to waste money.

Mother in law has this set, we got it new for $700.00 a couple of years ago. She is happy with them so far but doesn't do much laundry. I have tried it, washing was fair didn't realize how much the tub indexes. Don't care for the dubbed down hot water though. When winter comes here the cold water is really cold so you end up with basically a little bit better that warm when on hot. Dryer takes forever and the auto cycle never dries everything completely when it shuts off. You have to run everything twice thru the cycle. The manual says to fill the washer half way with water before putting clothes in. Anybody know why? I put the detergent then clothes and started it and everything came out fine.

I had one of these in a corporate apt I had a couple years ago in California. It was a gas dryer though. It did an ok job but I wasn't impressed and wouldn't buy one. They make a model with a front load washer also. Does anyone know what the performance is for them?

I have one in the garage for my brothers greasy work clothes...mine is the kenmore version...indexing tub plus a dual action agitator, really scrubs well, but like most TL frigidaires, the frame seems flimsy and cheap, take off one panel and its ready to fall over, and not wild about plastic tubs, but it was given to me, so I can't complain...

So what do you suggest?,,

My son will be moving into an apartment soon, and they only provide space for a stacked unit of some kind. I think the width demension was 30". So what should he get that would be dependable, and not break the bank, as he doesn't have much cash to buy anything real expensive. I too have noticed these units with the nameplates of Kenmore, GE, Fridigaire, are all the same machine. I've seen some front load Fridigaires that can be stacked, advertised. Would these be a better setup? Open for suggestions please.

The 27" Whirlpool DD set would almost certainly last longer than he wants to use it. It appears that front loaders still don't last very long, and are very expensive. DD Whirlpools are almost always very reliable. If you have 30", that should fit. It's possible to buy 24" separates from several manufacturers, but those are quite a bit smaller and are expensive. I have the separate parts stacked that make up the 24" Whirlpool Thin Twin. It's quite a bit smaller but not much cheaper than the 27" one. My washer is 18 years old and still works great. The insides are in good shape, too. The dryer is from '96 and runs like a top. Though I like mine, I would recommend the larger unit if it fits. Even a single guy living alone needs to wash some large bedding sometimes and that will fit the 27".

The DD Whirlpool design gets a lot of flack on this forum for being hard on clothes, but even most of their detractors have to admit that they're reliable. Whirlpool's dryer design has been around even longer. They worked the bugs out of this stuff a long time ago.

We had a GE stackable that looked a lot like the Frigidaire stackable shown here in a condo we once had. We never liked it. It would hold only 4 or 5 towels at a time, or two pair of jeans before it would become overloaded and couldn't maintain roll over. Plus the dryer was vented out the front with a link filter screen on the front of the dryer. Running the dryer would make the whole house dusty and very humid. It did the job, but we had to keep up with the laundry.
We are very happy with our Whirlpool shredmore!

I agree with Goatfarmer here. I will take as many of these as you can give me if they work. Yes they sell extremely well. Some people are just plain fascinated by them.
