This extra feature (hole) made extracting lint so much easier!

So, what vintage of Speed Queen is this?
A solid tub, solenoid operated one! The A76 is the little cousin to the A78 (1967).
This machine came from Des Moines. The original photo that I saw of the washer made it look:
1. Mint (defined as no rust)
2. Older - maybe 1964 ish?
After arriving at the house the owner and his wife mentioned that when they pulled it from the wall they noticed some rust. When I saw the hole my heart sank. I've been searching for a solenoid Speed Queen for a while now and thought that I had locked it in.
It will make a great parts machine, and was a stunning machine when new. I couldn't leave it behind. Who knows when a fluid drive clutch will be needed?

This machine was a strange bird, but I like it! Porcelain tub with an aluminum agitator. Factory, I tell ya!
The owner said he had been using it for about 10 years, and just recently it would sometimes not 'spin all the water out.'

Also strange - the lid. No safety tab like that of the A78.
Control panel. The owner and his wife were extremely nice, but I feel bad that they never changed the bulb in the panel. Cleans the clothes 10 percent better than with a non-lit panel!

I remember reading a Consumer Reports washer review years ago (when they were still worth reading) that had a line about how perforated tubs "had solved the sand disposal problem." Still, it's surprising how much sediment is in there.

Post wipe-down control panel shot. This Speed Queen was extremely versatile in it's options. When running a 15w bulb lights up the dial from behind. Very very cool.

the brochure for the machine just happened to be in the library. I screamed to be scanned as soon as I got home.
While a parts machine - solid tub SQ's are showing up everyday, so I thought I'd share. Also, I don't think I've seen this model/panel show up since I've been frequenting the site.

What a mess of rust - do you think it was a water-valve or hose dripping for a long, long time? I've seen rusted-through bases before, but usually on the machines with the bleach pump in the front left corner.
Oh well, there are a few good organs to harvest on the old, rusty girl. Happy parting!

That's a cool machine, though--I LOVE the aluminum agitator with the porcelain tub--and groovy control panel.
I have an idea--let's put it together with my SuperSurge Frigidaire dishwasher and some rusted metal cabinetry, make it into an exhibit, and have Rustoleum sponsor it :-D

Thanks guys - I hope you all enjoyed the SQ. For some strange reason it wouldn't spin. I'm not sure if it is the timer or the spin speed switch. When you put it into spin the motor just stops, but the spin solenoid actives. Not really too concerned at this point - lol.
Greg - really, the water valve. And leaking? It has some horrible hoses on it and I wouldn't be surprised if they are the culprit. Bitches!
