Why Maytag Automatic Washers Clean Clothes So Well...

I was lucky enough to have these manuals come with my MOL/BOL Maytag set...although just a one speed washer, the differences in the cycles do make some difference. And the dryer works fine with timed drying for either perm press or regular. And it does have an air fluff cycle.

I never found

A Maytag that DIDNT walk and get out of balance, and the dryers are SLOWWWW...

My A310 started walking,so I bought new rubbers for the feet,releveled,tightened those nuts and Presto -New Maytag.Seems that old rubbers need to be discarded. IMHO

Wow, my Maytag never takes a walk and I'm amazed at how it handles out-of-balance loads during the spin cycle. Maybe I'm just lucky? I don't believe there is a shut-off/buzzer to stop the machine if its really out of balance. I did encounter that once with an off-balance load of bathroom rugs, it just kept clanging against the outer tub...but the machine itself didn't move...

I wouldn't trade my 1972 Maytag A606 for anything. It washes my filthy work clothes amazingly clean, extracts well, never goes off balance, doesn't tangle the clothes, and doesn't break. As far as I'm concerned, there is no finer all-around top-loading washing machine design. I got it from the garbage 15 years ago, replaced the leaking stem seal, bypassed the lid switch, and it's been running fine for me ever since.

If I had bought a new machine at that time, it would be cat food cans by now.

there's a difference of a machine on a concrete floor versus on a wood floor.....its not really the machine that shakes or wobbles, it the floor giving in that causes the movement....

yet some wood floors are built better than others....

I found with Maytag's, as with a few others, like a filterflo, wash best with the standard capacity machines....the rollover in a circle versus the oval shape of the load in a taller tub....

I am all for larger capacity machines, but just one of those things I noticed...

that has always been an issue, they made the machines capacity larger, but not exactly the agitator, all they did was add 2 or 3 inches to the barrel....

all the more reason, dual action agitators helped in those cases.....

yeah, once I got an 806Sudssaver, I could never go back to a lesser version of a Maytag....the variable of options is endless.....the 50hz pulley was a great addition as well....

The only time our family's Maytag walked around was when the damper pads gave out. And that was back in the early 90s!
Never out of balance either unless it's odd items. Which is rare.

Only time I saw one walk or for that matter, shake and vibrate was when the legs were screwed all the way out and/or it was unlevel. As far as the "action" goes, they just don't splash around or put on much of a show for you when washing. Some of the old machines did just that, like Kevinator, Apex and even Frigidaire.

Yes, unpredictable walking can be those damper pads. I've used Maytags on every kind of floor there is including cork and never had a walking issue except when the pads were bad.
