I'll sue! That's what I'll do, I'll sue!

Here's me doing a bit of laundry with the new bottle of Tide "Free and Gentle" liquid, "HE" formula when it struck me how much thinner the product was compared to the previous version.

Well as one lined up the bottle next to the older bottle of Tide F&C (this is going to Mother Dear's house), noticed that the new product is no longer "2X", and the cap is larger.

Labels on both bottles claim "64 uses", but I'm not too sure about that.

Laundress, dear!

Have you not noticed that some of us have referred to Procter and Gamble as "Profit and Gain?"

It is distressing, I fully agree, especially when price increases are underhandedly achieved, instead of an honest .75 more.....

Yeah Well The Joke Is On Them

Got this new bottle with a "free" coupon from P&G for a Tide product, after a horrible dismal encounter with their liquid Tide Stain Release product. If one had bad full retail price ($23 USD) for this jug, I'd be pretty sore.

Being as that last statement may, am still going to telephone P&G tomorrow and give them the rough side of my tongue.

You'd think from all the wailing and moaning coming out of P&G boardrooms about loosing market share during this economic recession (consumers just aren't willing to shell out $$$ for Tide products when strapped, and are finding other brands of detergent work just as well and cost less), they'd stop these bait and switch tactics.

Am also going to contact Consumer Reports and let them know what their darling Tide detergent is up to.

Yeah Well The Joke Is On Them

It may very well may be.. The new upgraded versions of the Pro line Tide is also thinner and requires 2 more oz. per 50 # load than the old version..It is also almost 50.oo more for a 5 gallon pail.. Also it IS NOT cleaning near as well and we are haveing almost double rewash rate.. This is the last week for P & G in this plant will go back with Ecolab and some Gurtler Chemical. and ultra plus..Know of 3 others in the area that have also changed from P & G beacuse of the same problems.. We also have another new rep that is a TOTAL asshole. His nose is stuck up so high in the air if it rains he is going to drown..

I noted before that the caps got a bit larger, but they they now changed the lines in the cap. I can hear them now: "Oh no, we didn't make the caps bigger so that people use more product! We did that so that people can SEE the measuring lines better. We made the line numbers bigger, so we HAD to make the caps bigger so that people can READ them."

RIIIIIIIIGHT!!!

Haven't noticed the change in consistency. Maybe the new Wisk will really rival Tide...

Just purchased a bottle of the newest version of liquid Tide HE With Bleach Alternative. Cap looks different, but haven't opened it yet to see if consistency is thinner. Bottle claims 52 uses, and cap claims it's the Acti-Lift formula, although I don't see a mention of that anywhere on the bottle.

We'll have to see what Consumer Reports has to say about the performance of the new formula. Non-HE liquid Tide with Bleach Alternative was rated substantially lower than it had been in their most recent test. Wonder if that was the new formula?

Thanks for the heads-up, Launderess!

I bought a bottle of the new Wisk HE recently.  The measuring cap is quite bad, gray in color and the measurement lines are largely impossible to see.  There's a bright halogen desk lamp shining into & through the cap.  This is Line 2 and Line 3, as recommended for "Normal" & "Large" loads.  Note that there's very little difference between 2 and 3, and both levels are about 1/2 the full cap.  Very easy to overdose, and perhaps intentionally designed that way?  There's also a lower-dose Line 1 and larger-dose Line 4.

Bad Caps

I thought there was a movement towards clear caps with colored lines. Seems that in the end, this would make more sense.

Of all the money hungry.....

.....things to do to the public....

I don't think I have ever seen or experienced the amount of conniving money grabbing in laundry products that American manufacturers seem to hurl at their public....

The last big movement here was to '2x' concentrate powders and micro liquids. Within weeks, Choice, our consumer magazine, had bought boxes of powder and confirmed that there are indeed the same number of washes per package as the previous larger packaging when using the included scoops......

Well So Far

Two wash loads (bed linens), with this new Tide, and it maybe P&G has finally dealt with the excess froth issue.

Used up to the "1" line on two loads so far in the Miele and things seem to be going well. That is not a huge froth cake as wont to happen with Tide products, "HE" or otherwise. Rinsing seems better as well. Not not as good say as with the European products in my stash, but decent enough.

Am trying to work though much of my current American product stash, so there will be more loads in future.

As colder weather arrives find I really tend to prefer detergents totally absent of scent. Since laundry is line dried mostly, either indoors or out, the scent of some laundry products in close quarters can be a bit much. Sadly on this front the European detergents in my stash are often guilty. Alpine Fresh scent Ariel is all fine and well when the windows ar open and a fresh breeze is blowing through, but in a closed house it can be a bit much.

It seems Tide "HE" is the only scent free detergent. Have given up on finding the same across the pond, especially in France.

It's funny, because I have almost the opposite approach. I much prefer unscented for summer when drying outside--nothing beats that fresh outdoor dried scent. In winter, when I dry inside, I often use unscented, but sometimes I think I like slightly scented better. Please note the words slightly scented. It is an unfortunate fact that people concocting these scents often put the strength at about 18 on a 1-10 scale.

Well keep us posted

on recent developments in this P&G saga Laundress, we are most interested in the outcome.
It would appear from the anecdotes that P&G has "matured to sour" as most large ie GM corporations do, I had suspected as much. When a company enjoys top sales post for many years it gets large and lax and thinks this will go on forever. Great opportunities for me in new market niches for sure!

I just used Tide Original in my "new" Easy Demo Spin Dryer yesterday. 1 and 1/2 Cups to a load. It didn't get out stains , it also was so "harsh" it slightly faded my cottons.

Uh, HELLO?????

Have you read nothing I've posted on so-called "HE" detergents? Big American companies are about nothing anymore than bilking the public within the widest constraints of law. I had an argument with an attorney the other week that selling a Whirlpool-made washing machine under a "Maytag" label constituted fraud. She said I had a point, but the letter of the law was being followed.

Just as long as P&G doesn't touch my regular "Tide with Bleach" powder(reincarnated DASH). Then it's on.

Well, Did Several Loads Yesterday With The New Tide "F&G

So far am that well surprised.

Everything came out clean, with stains removed. To be fair did add a teaspoon of super concentrated activated oxygen bleach (Ecolab), but sill. Did not add any STPP or other additives besides the bleach.

P&G has changed the scent of "Free and Gentle", so now it truly smells like "nothing" or perhaps plain water. Laundry comes out of the wash smelling "clean" without added scent.

To be clear all "perfume and dye free" detergents contain some sort of perfume. This is to mask the scent of chemicals, especially in liquid detergents. With previous versions of Tide "clear", the scent was easily picked up, and indeed if one took a whiff of wash water after subsequent launderings, you could smell the perfume in water.

What really impressed me is that P&G seems to have dealt with the famously bad case of froth that plagues all Tide products.

Even with using up to the "1" mark, my Miele had clear water by the third rinse cycle. Normally using a full dosage of any Tide product in my front loaders causes a froth attack. Indeed the Miele did not have to slow down during frist part of spin cycles to cope with heavy suds draining from laundry.

As Sunday is a day of rest, linens won't be ironed until Tuesday at best, well be better able to judge results then.

It's Official - Tide 2x Liquids Are Kaput

Least far as one can tell from shops around my way.

Have been to several and all one sees are the new "Actilift" liquids, and other versions, but no more "2x".

Seem to remember someone posting about P&G having a large roll-out this Fall for new versions of Tide, guess this is it as far as liquids go.

Of course those number of loads is to the "medium" load line, so 100 loads is really only about 75...that's a rip. Most households never bother...people fill up to the top and dump n go...which is exactly what they want people to do.

The Compact Powders of 2011

We've talked about the liquids, but what about the new powders from P&G coming early next year?

It'll be interesting to see how people here will adapt to using 1/3 less powder.

I remember the first Ultra powders in the early 90's, followed by the Ultra2 powders in 1996.
