Hi Guys,

just picked up this old Wilkins Service single tub washer from West Sydney for $5. looks in pretty good shape from the outside but the pump has ceased up. Also some of the rubber hoses are pretty brittle too. On the hunt to see if I can get a new pump, fingers crossed a spares shop may have some old stock. Would be cool to get it working. The motor runs and the wringer goes. It is going to need quite a bit of TLC to get her up and running again.

Also found an archived thread on Wilkins Service washers, some great info and pictures on this Aussie company

I surprised myself, fixed the washer in less than a day. Stripped down the pump which was totally jammed, soaked in WD40 and reassembled, replaced perished hoses and it works perfectly well. I was sure the pump would leak but not a drop. This is a really basic machine, no timer just manual agitate off or on. Has a heater, that too has no thermostat, it just heats up to boiling point until it is switched off. As for the mangle, how dangerous are they! Nearly got my finger dragged in to it, won’t do that again.

If anyone interested, check out the video which includes a brief tour of my laundry room in the basement, which will get renovated once the rest of the house is done. This is my first ever You Tube upload, hope it works OK

What a great find

In the UK that model was called a superheat , several members over here have these washers including myself.
As you said very simple machines , hope you have a lot of fun with it.
It's a shame that the wringer plates are missing as that would make using the wringer much easier.
I have included a link to my servis superheat on you tube so you can compare the two.
Happy washing.

Hi Lance,

Your machine is much older than my machine but it is in great condition. I do have the wringer plates, I just haven't attached them yet. You are right it will make the wringer easier to use. I was thinking it would have been a great feature if there was some sort of lint filter fitted to the outlet at the top of the tub so you could have the pump engaged during the wash and filter the water.

I see you have an old Hoover TT or is it a single tub in the back ground. I would love to get my hands on a TT. They do come up from time to time on eBay but all the ones so far have been huge distances away in other states.

I will attach the writer plates and post a picture or two

Cheers

Simon

Hi simon

Yes, that is a Hoover twin tub you can see, i sprayed it cream to match my kitchen but it is now stored in the garage , to see a short clip of it working look at my videos on YouTube, there you will also find videos of some of my other machines.
I am at the moment working on an old AEG twin tub.
Pictures and video will follow if I manage to get the old bird working.
Fingers crossed.
