Windows 7

How many of you are currently running Windows 7 and are you happy with it? Last summer when I bought my Toshiba laptop, it had Windows Vista. I hated it from the beginning...MEMORY HOG and a really slow operating system. I then downloaded a Beta version of Windows 7 and ran that until the final release when Toshiba sent me a free upgrade disc to Windows 7.

I must say that I'm actually quite surprised at how well this OS has been. I'm yet to have ONE error or anything freezing up on me. Its also MUCH faster then Vista. Although XP was my favorite...theirs not much support from Microsoft anymore.

I upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 Enterprise in Jan. I don't have any issues with it. It is easy to configure networking, and the system has a smaller footprint than Vista. I have had one or two hangs but not as many as with Vista or XP and the system recovers nicely.

Not sure I see any speed difference in applications but there is faster response when using the browser. The big difference will be seen if you use the 64 bit version and 64 bit applications, but there are not many of these apps being developed yet.

Windows 7 has less compatibility issues than Vista but then Win 7 is basically Vista with some of the problems worked out plus some additional functionality. You can upgrade directly from Vista which tells me that many of the system componets are the same. I chose to wipe Vista away and load a completely fresh version of 7. Even then the install saved the Vista Dlls and files in a directory named Windows Old, just in case you needed to use them.

Overall I think Windows 7 is a worthy upgrade. It requires more computing power than XP but not necessarily more than Vista - depends on the system and memory you currently have. I am not sure how it actually compares to the latest Mac OS. Most folks with Mac are happy with them too, but since I have a Windows machine - 7 is the way to go. I had Vista

on a toshiba laptop and it sucked big time. It crashed without warning or previous issue one day and I lost it all since my last backup. I sold the damn thing and recently bought a new Acer laptop with 7 on it. I must say I really like 7 alot and I also like the Acer. I used to think they were junk.

I too have a Toshiba laptop and upgraded to Windows 7 with the free cd they sent out. I couldn't be more pleased with the performance of the O/S but as far as user interface goes, the new task bar and programs menu are awful, I immediately switched back to the original Windows 9X style with an add-on software.

My Toshiba netbook (purchased March 2010) uses Windows 7 Starter. Operating system works very well, does what it's supposed to do, and doesn't hog memory/crash the system. 7 Starter is VERY basic, for example you can't change the desktop wallpaper, but at least it won't destroy the computer as can Vista. Learning curve coming from XP, never having touched Vista, was not too tough.

I built three computers for my cousins this past January. All had Windows 7 Home Edition on them. Now these people are not computer whizzes by any means. They know how to make the programs they want to use work, but beyond that they just don't know any better and don't want to learn anything about Windows Explorer, System Maintenance, etc.

I was worried that they would have fits with Windows 7. But they have not. In fact they thought it was a lot easier to use than Windows XP. And now they are using their computers more and more and actually learning where files they have downloaded have gone to.

Me, still Windows XP Home. It works fine for me and I don't see any reason to upgrade, yet.

Widows 7 is --- Solid, dependable, easy to use. Been using windows since 3.1 and this is the best of the bunch.

Running W7 Ultimate x86/x64 dualboot

Catches up with Crysis/GTA4 nicely, Overclock-tools dont really work on Vista/W7, But hey, Longe live DirectX11! [altourgh i dont have a ATI 5xxx series card but i have a MSI HD4850 OC]

Windows 7

I am currently running windows seven and love it. It has an easy to use interface... WPF. And has better security,looks, voice reconigtion, and code C++ I beleve. Very fast indeed. I have had it for two 1/2 years now and it has suited me well. It is very simple and easy to use windows vista ha modified security but was not as simple. I've had it for so long because my Dad is a developer. With silverlight it is amazing!!!

What does Silverlight offer?

I downloaded it on my laptop a year or so ago and it screwed up playing netflix on my laptop, so I've avoided it on my other computers. Now I stream Netflix HD on all my blu ray players so that is not an issue. What does it add to WIn 7?

Silverlight

Silverlight is like the new JavaScript it may not be compatible to some programs but makes very good quality. JavaScript doesn’t access everything in your computer but Silverlight does. Silverlight supports video too. Say HTML only gives you 360p. Silverlight uses you computers graphics to the max (optional of course). It’s like JavaScript’s competitor. There are many other new features but it’s too long. It only runs on the web.

I have silverlight but how do you use it with the web? You start it, then the browser? Or are you using it to develop web applications?
