Windows Update Warning

The latest 2nd-Tuesday Win updates are available.  That infernal KB2952664 is back on the "important" list.  I typically make note and uncheck/block it but overlooked doing so on one of my Win7 systems.  The result was an irritating change in appearance of the Start Menu, Task Bar, and frames around program windows.

And a consistent/persistent fault advisory bubble at boot-up regarding "Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service.  This problem prevents limited users from logging in to the system.  As an administrative user, you can review the System Event Log for details why the service didn't respond."

Multiple attempts to fix the problem per search suggestions to no avail, I uninstalled KB2952664, and now joy!

KB2952664 update was installed earlier this week, but have not experienced any of issues mentioned.

Thank you for heads up, shall keep an eye on things to see what happens.

same here - I noticed updates earlier this week and I saw no issues after updating.

Same here for once, update went ok, I think. January 5th Windows update turned my keyboard off and completely re-installed Windows again and took all my AOL, printer and files out. Microsoft did come in remotely and restored them. Now I am getting that annoying red INTERNET SECURITY WARNING on incoming e/mails and have to sign out and back in to AOL mail. This is getting very old and wish we could go back to the user friendly 3.1, and plain old AOL.

I didn't experience any problems with this week's update either, but one of the updates a few months back distorted my Windows Live Mail to the point that anything besides accessing messages is no longer possible. 

 

My PC is old and these updates slow it down a little more each time.  I just got a new laptop and am going to be transitioning to it shortly.  Even upgrading to Windows 7 was a stretch with my current rig, so I've been on borrowed time with 10 anyway.

 

Somewhere along the line I lost the option to pick and choose which parts of the update I want to install.  I hope I can get that back with the laptop.

Windows 10 by-and-large does not allow skipping any important/required updates, far as I'm aware being that I don't use it (although I have a bit of hands-on via friends/family).  There's a way to temporarily delay them (unless that option has been removed).

I think Windows 10 Pro (which I use) allows longer delays than the normal version.  Using the options below I can delay quality updates for 30 days and feature updates for 365 days.

 

I have given up for the most part and just hope for the best.  No real complaints about Windows 10 here.  Most of the annoyances (Cortana, etc) can be turned off or relegated to the background.

 

Windows XP remains my favorite version of Windows.  Rock solid and the UI seemed to be more consistent.  Except for dog in the search box, LOL.  Will never understand that one.

A few months ago

a windows 10 update completely removed stereo mix from my sound properties. It's such a pain to get it on my computer in the first place because neither of my laptops came with it. I finally figured it out after searching through like 20 YouTube vids. Honestly, every time I see update available I DREAD IT because you never know what's going to change.

Yeah, I have had issue with the Windows 10 updates. I could never get my phone to connect right with my computer, it kept connecting and disconnecting. Finally someone suggested I get a different cable and that was the problem. But after Windows updated last time, it stopped connecting again, this time it doesn't even try to connect, it only charges. Very annoying.

KB2952664 reinstalled itself.  I blocked it in Win Updates after the initial uninstall.  Rebooted yesterday for an iTunes update, the characteristics of it are back and it's listed again as an installed update.  Have tried 3 times to uninstall it again and it persists.
