WINTERIZING........

for those of you guys who store your machines in the garage or shed for the winter, What do you do to prepare the machines for freezing temperatures?

I add a gallon of windshield washer antifreeze to the tub, and let it spin while recirculating the drain hose into the tub, to make sure it is mixed thru out....

Is this a bad solution?....or should I pull the hoses off and drain all water out of unit, I just heard thats it better to keep the seals moist and not dry out...

when I transport machines, if possible, I usually use a wet/dry vac to suck out as much water as possible...

I'll let the experts weigh in, but you may want to try RV Antifreeze (pink stuff) instead of the washer fluid. It's recommended around the house where you can't (or don't want) to drain water in traps and toilets. And of course, winterizing RV's.

I'm always surprised at the amount of water in a machine that's sat inside for year(s)!

Front loaders with their rubber boots may require some extra prevention.

You do have to drain the fill valves. Shut off water, disconnect hoses from tap and machine. Set wash temp to WARM so both valves open and turn on machine for about a minute to let the water drain out of the valves. If you are storing a foreign-built machine with separate hot and cold valves, select HOT then COLD to drain both.
