wiring for A407 to new Part #12002351 drive motor

Hello,
I've got a Maytag A407 washer and DE608 dryer set that we have owned for over 30 years. Bought them used for $325 when my wife and I got married.
The are both Harvest Gold.
The motor on the A407 died. Smoke coming out of the coils. So, I bought an new motor. All sites say the #12002351 should work but I can not find any information on how to wire the existing 5 wires from the A407 to it. The information I've found is to retrofit newer models.
Old motor is a 2-1664-7. Wire colors are Green, yellow, black, white and red.
Included with the new motor is a pigtail with Blue, yellow, black, white and red.
Green does not equal blue.
In the absence of any better info, I did wire green to blue and the others to their corresponding colors, but nothing happened. I would rotate the dial to the different wash stages, pull the know for a second and see if it would spin or at least make some transformer noise. Nothing...
So, anyone know the wiring pattern to wire the new motor to the old A407?
I'm including several pictures. Old motor, new motor wiring block, adapter pig tail and a photo of the wiring schematic on the back panel of the A407. I can figure what wires are doing what from the schematic, but I have no idea what the internal wiring of the new #12002351 is.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did the motor come with its own wiring diagram? Like which wires go to which parts of the coil?

It did. Attached is what came with the new motor.
Initially I tried the, "motor with square block" line, circled. No go.
Then, based on the diagram, last night, I tried what you can faintly make out in pencil. I erased it since it too was incorrect. I do not want to bias anyone's input and I did not want to post what I know to be incorrect.
It would spin, but quickly started to smell. I unplugged it within a second or two. I think the motor is still fine.
So, I may have been close. But I did not want to push my luck any further. Hence the escalation to this group for other input.

I can see that the information supplied with the new motor is only partially helpful. 

 

Maybe I'm being too logical and/or simplistic (wouldn't be the first time for that) but it appears to me from the pictures provided that:

 

New YELLOW = Old RED (so new yellow terminates where old red did)

New RED = Old YELLOW (etc.)

New GRAY = Old BLACK (etc.)

 

Furthermore, it appears the New BLACK = old GREEN and New BLUE = old WHITE, and these may terminate onto different connectors than did the WHITE and GREEN from the old motor judging from 1) The "internal switch" designation which suggests that whatever the old white and green leads were connected to is now bypassed, and 2) The old white and green functions shown on the schematic. 

 

If I've only stated the obvious and haven't provided anything that might help you figure this out, there are Maytag experts here who should be chiming in to provide proper instruction and get your motor wired up correctly.

actually very helpful in that I am right with you on your thought process.
I did the same for the Old Black, Red and White going to the New Grey, Yellow and Blue.
On the new black and Red, I had the Old yellow and green reversed from your suggestion. I agree the diagram does not have enough info to say one way or the other which is right. But I know what I did last night was not.
So, I'm going to reverse the two and report back.

Success!
I reversed the wires as above. That did not do it.
Took off the cover of the new junction block, (first picture attached) to see what was going on. This is a picture of the temporary/test solution. In the end, the supplied drawing is incorrect and the pigtail is manufactured incorrectly. To keep it simple, the white wire on the pigtail needed to be moved over one slot. (see second picture compared to previous). I suspect this will be a necessary change for anyone who buys from this manufacturer for any vintage washer this motor is to replace. With that change, wiring follows the "motor with square block" line. I've modified the motor diagram to reflect what is actually goin on in the new motor and attached for posterity. (4th picture) Last picture is the final install.
We are up and running for another 50 yrs.

Great news!  I can relate to the sense of satisfaction you must be feeling.

 

I don't know if I'd have been able to figure that out, but I'm glad you did.  This should be helpful to others who buy a replacement motor with erroneous instructions.
