Mini Basket

Matthew, I will let you know if that appliance shop has as mini basket and the cost.

This model was one down from the top. The TOL was the Americana

Attn. Matthew

I think I heard from you once before on this subject, but I was out of state. My grandmother saved the mini basket out of her GEFF that lived 1979-1993. I have it and I think it's in my mom's boat. I'd love it to go to good use. Please send me an E-Mail to the address on my profile.

YAY Matthew, congratualtions 100 times over, I know how long you wanted one of those machines. It looks like a great top of the line machine.

Thanks!

Thanks everyone for the well wishes! I am pretty sure its only the belt that needs replacing on further inspection- see my other thread to explain more. Other than that, it really purrs like a kitten!

I'll let you know how I make out!

:)

Congrats Matt.

The GE I am so in love with is just like this in many ways. It must be a mid 70's design, though. Everything from the toggle swtiches to the cycles are the same. My aunt's was the Americana with the console light. I can't begin to tell ya'll how many times she let me sit on the washer, at a very early age, and look down thru the Dispensall lid at the water shooting into the Filter pan (the actual Dispensing unit was removed). The only things that make it different, is the design of the console, more than likely a more recent model, and the Mini-Quick option was on the water level knob as Mini-Basket and then there was a switch to the left of the control knob to swtich the Mini-Quick option on or off. And I just love those big-ass straight vaned activators. Oh, and just for entertainment purposes, my mom informed me the other day that my first word was "agitator"....who knew? Good luck with your new machine :)

Great catch Matt!! Congratulations on your GE with the Extra Rinse! Hope the repair is a simple thing. (:

Another Question....

WEll, I changed the belt today and it runs great - thanks everyone for your help!

Now I need help and advice on the outer tub's seal around the top cover. It leaks just over the inlet valve when it spins. The water splashing up bubbles over the top. Can I replace this and until then what do I do in the mean time?

Thanks!
Matt

Appliances at Lowes/Best Buy

Versatronic and all fellow dumpster divers -

Behind both Lowes and Best Buy is a Truck Trailer parked where they offload the old appliances they take out of houses they deliver to. Since I lost the Disppensall in December I've been obsessed with finding a machine. There are appliances coming in every day so in the evening after the deliveries have been made I would take a ride around the back of both stores - luckily they are both in the same shopping center - and check out the truck. There is ALOT of crap in these trucks and they really just throw stuff in there when they get them. They don't care because its just garbage to them. I have been snatching parts and things for a while now but on Saturday, I finally saw a machine worth taking. I went in and asked the guy in appliances if I could take it and he asked the guys in the warehouse in back. They said everything was up for grabs if I wanted it as they were just headed to the Dump. So, I went back around and moved the machine to the front of the truck so I could more easily offload it. The Delivery guy saw me and asked what I was up to and I simply told him I had asked inside and that I was taking the old machine to which he smiled and sarcastically said have fun! (Little did he know...)

I was excited but getting it off of a 5 ft high platform of this truck was not going to be fun. The next day, My father and uncle and I brought my moms SUV down and we laid the machine on a blannket on its side and slowly slid it out and lowered it to the ground then put it in our truck. It was awkward but worth it.

So there you go! - I still stop by in the evenings every so often to see what i find. But there are alot of old houses here and I know sooner or later alot of fun things will show up!

I'm a GE Fan but If I see something worth grabbing you know I will and I'll tell you all on here if anyone wants to come get it!

Good Luck and Have fun - but also be careful. The guys here were nice but I'm sure you've all experienced the strange looks and sometimes just plain nasty responses of people who think you are wasting their time.

Let me know if you find any Dispensalls and I'll look out for the rest of you for anything fun! Just let me know whhere your interests lie...

Matt

Thanks

OK, thanks for the info, Matthew. I don't think our local Best Buy actually sells appliances, but we have lots of Home Depots and Lowes. I'll be checking them out and see what I can come up with.

Well thank God someone agrees with me about straight vaned agitators. :) But I have to give credit to the ramp vaned ones too.......they can move some wash. But let me correct myself on these straight vaned agitators....they work great with those older washers (Maytag, GE Filter Flo's, Whirlpool, etc)....not these "beat the crap out of my clothes till they are clean" washers. I don't care for ANY of the modern (post 90's) TL washers. Just not quality..... Just my opinion.

Attention GE Extra Rinse

I am having trouble responding to your last e-mail. I have the packing material and I cleaned the basket up really good (it was in storage for almost 13 years). I just need to know where to ship the basket. I can take it to the post office and calculate the shipping if you can send me a zip code, although I really have no problem sending it to you if you can e-mail me a shipping address and you can reimburse me later. You seem trustworthy enough, and that way I can make one trip to the post office. Just send me an e-mail telling me what you want to do.
Yours Truly
Jason
