Help Support :

Another Question....

WEll, I changed the belt today and it runs great - thanks everyone for your help!

Now I need help and advice on the outer tub's seal around the top cover. It leaks just over the inlet valve when it spins. The water splashing up bubbles over the top. Can I replace this and until then what do I do in the mean time?

Thanks!
Matt

Appliances at Lowes/Best Buy

Versatronic and all fellow dumpster divers -

Behind both Lowes and Best Buy is a Truck Trailer parked where they offload the old appliances they take out of houses they deliver to. Since I lost the Disppensall in December I've been obsessed with finding a machine. There are appliances coming in every day so in the evening after the deliveries have been made I would take a ride around the back of both stores - luckily they are both in the same shopping center - and check out the truck. There is ALOT of crap in these trucks and they really just throw stuff in there when they get them. They don't care because its just garbage to them. I have been snatching parts and things for a while now but on Saturday, I finally saw a machine worth taking. I went in and asked the guy in appliances if I could take it and he asked the guys in the warehouse in back. They said everything was up for grabs if I wanted it as they were just headed to the Dump. So, I went back around and moved the machine to the front of the truck so I could more easily offload it. The Delivery guy saw me and asked what I was up to and I simply told him I had asked inside and that I was taking the old machine to which he smiled and sarcastically said have fun! (Little did he know...)

I was excited but getting it off of a 5 ft high platform of this truck was not going to be fun. The next day, My father and uncle and I brought my moms SUV down and we laid the machine on a blannket on its side and slowly slid it out and lowered it to the ground then put it in our truck. It was awkward but worth it.

So there you go! - I still stop by in the evenings every so often to see what i find. But there are alot of old houses here and I know sooner or later alot of fun things will show up!

I'm a GE Fan but If I see something worth grabbing you know I will and I'll tell you all on here if anyone wants to come get it!

Good Luck and Have fun - but also be careful. The guys here were nice but I'm sure you've all experienced the strange looks and sometimes just plain nasty responses of people who think you are wasting their time.

Let me know if you find any Dispensalls and I'll look out for the rest of you for anything fun! Just let me know whhere your interests lie...

Matt

Thanks

OK, thanks for the info, Matthew. I don't think our local Best Buy actually sells appliances, but we have lots of Home Depots and Lowes. I'll be checking them out and see what I can come up with.

Well thank God someone agrees with me about straight vaned agitators. :) But I have to give credit to the ramp vaned ones too.......they can move some wash. But let me correct myself on these straight vaned agitators....they work great with those older washers (Maytag, GE Filter Flo's, Whirlpool, etc)....not these "beat the crap out of my clothes till they are clean" washers. I don't care for ANY of the modern (post 90's) TL washers. Just not quality..... Just my opinion.

Attention GE Extra Rinse

I am having trouble responding to your last e-mail. I have the packing material and I cleaned the basket up really good (it was in storage for almost 13 years). I just need to know where to ship the basket. I can take it to the post office and calculate the shipping if you can send me a zip code, although I really have no problem sending it to you if you can e-mail me a shipping address and you can reimburse me later. You seem trustworthy enough, and that way I can make one trip to the post office. Just send me an e-mail telling me what you want to do.

Launderess brought to my attention an ebay auction that had the exact same machine as the one who's mini basket you will be getting. It was identical to this with only one teeny tiny difference. The toggle for the speeds had a third setting which was normal wash gentle spin, (probably for permanent press) otherwise it looked identical. It belonged to my grandparents. They purchased it in November of 1979 and it bit the dust in May of 1993. I guess it had some electrical problem.

Thanks Jason!

I'm looking forward to my first mini-wash in a long time!

I'm assuming the basket is white then? - most of this time period were - my grandmother had a similar machine in harvest gold and hers were white. Not that I care- any is better than none!

Straight Vane Agitators

and let me just add to your comments guys by saying that I LOVE the activation and turnover of this agitator. I washed a Queen Size Comforter yesterday and it turned over nicely. My Moms Maytag never moved a comforter like that - plus the Filter Flo would always keep things wet where as the maytags agitator never really did much if there was something this big in it.

I appreciate the ramed activators especially the sound thhey make but with this issue - I'm with the Straight vane fans!

Straight Vane Agitators

Matthew, I agree with you about the Maytags. There turnover was not as good as the GE's or some of the other brands. Maytag's turnover was much better when they came out with the spiral dual-action agitator. SO may that is why the Maytag's lasted so long??? Poor turnover??
