Woolite

Anybody use Woolite for their delicate stuff? I decided to use it for my nylon, silk and other thin, light fabrics. I put the perscribed amount in and got insane amounts of suds! The first time I did it, I washed a mixture of lycra biking clothes and other excersize stuff in the T.L. compact whirlpool. I had the water level set to 1/3, but the tub filled to the top with suds. The second time I tried Woolite with similar clothes, I washed them in the Danby. Even using a third the detergent I used in the Whirlpool, the entire window filled with suds, and the machine gave me a suds lock...wouldn't spin!

I normally use Arm & Hammer free or Tide Free for regular clothes washing, and either of those just puts a thin layer of suds on the surface of the water. I've used these detergents in both the FL and in the TL machines with good performance and have never seen this amount of suds. I've even used regular ol scented Tide for sheets an haven't even seen the amount of suds Woolite made!

Woolite and formulas

My mother and I ONLY use Woolite for our delicates. They make 3 formulas, Regular, HE, and Woolite Dark. All of my sweaters and delicate shirts and pants have full color retention and look like the day I bought them. It is a VERY high sudser indeed. It suds-locks Mom's Maytag DC almost everytime. We never use a full cap or the basement floor will become QUITE clean. 14 cap or less cleans beautifully and keeps suds semi-under control. I wouldn't trust my delicates to anything else.

I use Woolite For Darks in my FL Frigidaire. I use 1/2 capful and get plenty of suds, although they seem to break down well during the first spray rinse.

I remember vintage Woolite suds-locking our 1960 Kenmore all the time. I don't know how much gentler it is than any other detergent, but old habits die hard. Plus I like the scent.

I always thought it was so high-sudsing because many people used to wash their delicates by hand in the sink. Everyone wanted those mountains of creamy suds.

The detergent used in products like Woolite ARE milder than regular detergents. Regular detergent is designed to break down proteins, which is exactly what you DON'T want when washing you're woolens and silk things, since that's exactly what they are made of, animal protein (wool=hair=protein) and insect protein (silk from moth larvae)
