I was trying to run a load but since the brake was so violent from sitting for a while the machine would always jump. It eventually caught up to me and now the water level switch hose on the top panel is broken. so now I cannot reconnect it. now it needs a new top and water level switch. otherwise it is being put out of order for good and being parted out. nothing can ever go right in the horrible year of 2020. I wish I could use profanity/cursing but it is not allowed in public forms so I can't. this makes me so mad. I was looking for this machine ever since my Kenmore one rusted out and was recycled by my father. I wish I would have saved every part. The bearings were good on the Kenmore one too. If I can fix it I am disabling the brake permanently or getting the board from an LCR7244HQ1 so it coasts to a stop instead of this violent brake. It scares me every time it puts the brake on. I would leave the shifter in place and remove the brake band. otherwise I want to replace that too. sorry for low quality photos. my tablet broke and I am using my gopro

the part I need is NLA

part number 285936. I need that bracket to fix the unit. If there is none out there then I will remove every part and send this one off to the shredder where it will turn into a Chevrolet Silverado

Hi Kelly, these may be both very easy problems to fix,

 

Over 1/2 of all the WWs had the air-dome hose fitting break off, just open up the control panel and connect the air-dome hose back together using a 1/2" piece of 3/16" tubing, I am sure that I fixed over 100 WWs with the same problem.

 

For the rusty brake drum that grabs and stops too fast just put a small amount of grease on the brake drum to slow the stopping power of the brake way down.

Thank you for the advice. However looking at a brand new gearcase. I see the brake drum is brass. whenever I reach underneath the unit to the brake drum it leaves black grease on my right hand. Also I wonder why it is rusty if my Lip seal and bearings are still good. Thankfully the gearcase is bolted together so I can attempt to take it apart if the bearings/seal fail.

Hi Kelly, The brake drum is not brass, but rather plated steel and it will rust if the washer is stored in a very damp area or outside.

That's new to me!

Never knew these had a brake at all. I had a 1994 model Whirlpool branded one with water levels, 3 temps., perma press, delicate cycles and all. No brake.

Hi Kelly, it won't matter at all, this is not a critical application for lubricants .
