Kitchen Aid Dish Drawer

I saw in this thread a loaded KA dishdrawer, and since I have had success bringing mine back from dead ( the dishdrawer I found at Lowes), I thought I show some pictures of whats going on under the loaded rack. This is a shot of the front of the dishwasher. When you buy it, you also have to purchase front panels seperately for it. Nice additional insult from KA I think

Pump Impeller

An interesting design of the dishwasher is that the wash arm is used as the actual pump chamber. When you remove the wash arm you expose the impeller

variflexpghpa, that's not a KA drawer, it's a Fisher & Paykel. KA drawers are rebadged F&Ps.

If you haven't yet done so, take off your wash arm, remove the filter screen, then take out the pump rotor. You may be amazed at how simple is the mechanism. :-)

Pump Assembly

It is also interesting that tub is totally one piece and the rotor assembly is totally isolated from the actual motor windings outside. There is no seal to fail
You can see the filter assembly with the pump attached to it
The grey impeller is the drain pump

Lid Assembly

You may wonder how the drawer is sealed so that washing can occur and not flood. Here is a view of the tub lid. It is attached to the Y shaped yokes both sides and is raised and lowered with worm screws driven by twin motors. The motors are slightly below the drawer rails

Kitchenpakel

Hi
Yes I know its rebaged, but the KA website does tell you that
however they make it clear that the KA drawer has had some changes made to it to meet KA high specifications. For what thats worth........

Under the front cover

Heres whats hiding under the front access panel, which is covered when you buy the additional cost actual panels

On the left is the detergent/rinse aid dispenser and the black fan is actually the fan for the forced air drying

Drawer Position Sensor

The sensor that determines the whether the drawer is open or closed uses an infrared transmitter and receiver, and is tranmitted thru the plastic light guides mounted on the draw.
On the frame is a prism which reflects the signal from the transmitter down and back to the receiver. So when the drawer is closed the circuit is complete so to speak and the drawer will run
