I am a little stuck about what to get my Secret Santa "victim." I don't know him very well. I like him, just don't know him as well as I know others here.

Anyway....the high school group at church is selling "gift jars" as a fund-raiser for their annual summer mission trip...either a bean soup blend or a brownie mix blend. Would it be tacky if part (PART!) of my "victim's" package was one of these jars? I had the soup offered last year, and it was good, if that makes any difference.

Awaiting your thoughts......

Food makes a great gift.

It goes back to ancient times getting the "Trophy" when winning something meant getting "food" as the gift/prize. This is one orign of the word "Trophy"

I am sure whatever you offer will be given with a a great deal of thought, respect and and admiration.

it's the thought

Hey..sounds like a great ideal... the fact that you've invested your time in being concerned about an approproiate gift speaks volumes about you. It's a great ideal. The youth group at my church sold jarred M@M cookie mix last year..For Christmas I got 3 jars from different childen I teach in childre's choir...I enjoyed home made cookies almost all year. I say go for it as well!!!

If it comes from the heart

My guy that i am buying for I do not know at all, however, i gave a long thought to what he likes by looking at his profile and got creative and worked my best to be thoughtful. The very fact that you are concerned, shows a big heart:)

Instead of starting another thread-

I'm in Secret Santa at another board. (Yes, my darlings, I am Bi. Bi-board-al, that is).

(Relax, it's a board for writers. This is my only appliance board).

I was just going to get my "victim" a Target card, and some fun stuff like the wrapped "pick and mix" candy from the supermarket.

Until now.

In a thread at the other board, my victim revealed tonight that he works at Target, mostly for the experience.

Hear that BOOM and pathetic whining sound?
That was my plan imploding.

He claims to be hetero and is turning 21. I have no earthly idea.

Right now, I am thinking that next year, I am only going to do Secret Santa here.

Gift Cards

Any kinds of gift cards would work for a 21 YO male. Borders, Waldenbooks, & Starbucks sound good for a young writer. Insipration for his own writing from reading others and caffeine to stay awake when those thoughts hit you in the middle of the night and you "have" to get it on paper!

Good luck & Marry Christmas Lawrence! :)

Hi

Hi, I'm going to hang around here for awhile. Lawrence, I agree with Heather regarding gift cards from Starbucks, Borders, etc. Barnes and Nobles is also a great place. As far as the Jar of soup mix add a couple of soup bowls or mugs and place it all in a gift bag. That would be a fine gift.

Regarding this person on the other board. Given his area of interest (if is is collecting) is it an option to get him some kind of gift card or certificate towards the restoration of one of his prized possessions?

I think food is always a great holiday gift. Way better than giving someone something they might not like but fake it like they do and then feel obligated to keep around in case they might get asked about it sometime in the future. With food they enjoy it and then it's gone, not another thing to take up space in the house. Maybe they'll take up more space in their waistline, but hopefully that would only be a temporary situation!
