I knew there were at least a thousand, but ...... growing so fast.  

 

This is in addition, of course, to being able to charge at home via grid or solar panels you may have.

Clearly making all vehicles autonomous is going to be the best.

 

When the cars do the driving and communicating with other vehicles:

They navigate the best shortest route along with other trafffic.

No traffic jams.

No road rage idiots. no slow pokes, no human error, no drunken morons driving, no impaired drivers

No insurance necessary.

no road signs or traffic signals to maintain.

 

Awesome.

I literally feel like we're at that point just after the turn of the last century when horses and carriages were still being used and laws were needed to clear the roads for automobiles.

A neighbor used to own a Prius and liked it except in the frigid winters we have here. Even leaving it plugged in all night, many times she would be ready to go to work and could not get it running. Just like a gasoline vehicle has a hard time starting in sub zero weather, the electrics batteries are just as apt to loose the charge and not be able to run. They are not good for cold weather like here it seems.

I was at the home of friends yesterday and they were having a 40 amp circuit run to the garage to charge one of their plug in hybrid vehicles. He said that the vehicle had no taxes at the time of purchase in the District of Columbia. Tesla owners showed me their trip plan with places to exit the highway and charge their cars.

I was surprised to see several Level 2 charging posts at the Hampton Inn I stayed at a few weeks ago. This was in Sioux Falls, SD. Didn't notice the charging stations mentioned at their website, but a bit of Googling confirmed they were installed/maintained by Tesla, which I think means they are compatible only with that brand of vehicle. The hotel is listed as a "Tesla Charging Destination" list online.

Can't imagine someone with the bank to own a Tesla would choose to stay at a Hampton Inn, LOL.

In fact, the entire place was very green/recycling forward, from the bar/breakfast buffet to the rooms. There was a coin-op Speed Queen washer and dryer in the guest laundry. There were two large see-through canisters on the folding table that featured bulk powdered detergent and dryer sheets, both gratis. No brand listed on either product.

More than just Tesla's can charge at most stations.  I think some cars just need some kind of adapter? Not exactly sure yet how that works.

 

I've no doubt there will be more uniformity going forward.  

 

It's just like gas stations: no one questions if the unleaded gas at one distributor is similar to that same named fuel from other stations.

Can non-Tesla electric cars use Tesla EV chargers?

My Dad had a Toyota Hybrid Highlander in Rapid City,Sd2006 model-worked thru their bad winters just fine.When my Dad moved to a retirement home-the car was passed to my older brother in Rapid City,SD and he used it for a few more years-then the car was lost in an accident-brother was fine-car totaled.

I had a PriusC on lease.  That was a super nice car.  Never had any problems.  It didn't matter if it was parked outside in winter.  So quiet.
