I've always had a fascination with washing machines since I was a little boy and now, just a "few" years later, nothing has changed. I NEVER imagined I would ever have a washing machine "collection"…. but it seems that now all of a sudden I do… AND all in ONE WEEK!!

A few weeks ago while on a car club driving event we stopped at a guys house along the beach for lunch. This guy has plans to demolish the house and build a new one within the next year. While looking around the house I discovered a Kenmore badged – Westinghouse FL washer and Gibson dryer. Since he's planning to demo the house I asked if I could have this washer & dryer… and that's how all this started! Two weeks later I picked up the washer and dryer and brought them home.

During this time I also posted a "wanted" ad on my company's inter-office bulletin board for old washers & dryers, working or not. I was surprised when I got TWO e-mail responding to my ad!

This is the Kenmore badged – Westinghouse FL with a DC reversing motor, separate drain pump and motor, etc. While they are not in the best condition cosmetically… it works great and it was FREE!!

Next washer...

Then I picked up this 1984 Kenmore, std capacity washer with 2 cycles, DD and spin drain…. works perfectly and was also FREE!!

And the next washer...

Next came this 1989 Whirlpool Imperial washer, super capacity, DD, neutral drain(!), 9 cycles with the extra rinse option, also works perfectly and yes, it was also FREE!!

The next washer....

THIS Friday I am picking up a White-Westinghouse FL washer and matching dryer... I'm told the washer doesn't drain, but I will check it out... and YES these are FREE TOO!!! (Pix to come after I get it home)

Where to put them.........??

Now that I have these washers here... what do I do with them? I want to play with them... which means hooking them up, right?

Here is the space I will put them....... before. A nice blank wall.

The visitor.....

My buddy Rich brought over his 1969 or 1970 Frigidaire "Skinny Mini", complete with the one piece "Agi-Tub"!

I STILL can't believe it! I guess you can say I am almost a "subdued" giddy about all this! It's still difficult for me to believe all three of these washers (not the Skinny Mini) arrived in ONE week and were all FREE!!!!! I am still buzzing with excitement!

question about the Kenmore DD

Does that early direct drive Kenmore washer have the fast stroke agitator like all the 1986-current models do?

Does that early direct drive Kenmore washer have the fast st

Yes it does. Before I plugged it in I was thinking (hoping) it had the slower stroke, but alas it does not. Still a cool little washer though.... (especially considering the price!)

Are you sure a AW. org member did not live in your home before you, LOL? I realize you had to do the water lines and drains, but you were all set for electrical outlets. Your quick set up of a collection, is an inspiration to us all. best of luck with your new machines. alr2903.

Great collection. The Skinny Mini is very kool. Don't see too many of those any more. Do you enjoy watching it in action? I enjoy the overflow rinse and am still amazed that the syncro-swing mechanism is able to create such good roll-over.

You're out of the closet now Kevin!

The door has sprung open, now if you can just get a jack hammer and whack off that pesky concrete step to the left of the Kenmore I think you can fit in another machine there too!!!

I bet you sit at work checking the clock to when you can get home and turn them on again !!!!!!!!!!!!

The Skinny-Mini

Yes the Skinny-Mini is very cool and I wish it were mine! But as I mentioned it's "only visiting". It has been in storage for the last couple years just collecting dust. Rich figured this way I can use it / play with it and he can come over and have fun with it too now. Yes it is pretty cool and does have a good wash action.

Video? I don't have a video camera, so I guess I will just have to have a wash-in so someone else can shoot video of them. :-D

great

Great plumbing work, Kevin! Impressive lineup! But, you still have room for a twin-tub or wringer washer at your stationary tub. Enjoy the Skinny Mini. I'm glad it is being used and will be over with some laundry soon!

From the gentlest to the most vigorous washing action, you have it covered! Jon is right, you'll never be able to hide your fascination with laundry ever again! Yay!

Isn't the Agitub fun? I was surprised at the washing action being pretty good despite the deceiving looks of the "agitator" in that tub. The only oscillating washer Frigidaire ever sold - but done in a completely bizarre way, just as one would expect from GM ;-)

From the gentlest to the most vigorous washing action....

Yes that is true! And the photo with all four machines washing at the same was my weekly loads. I discovered the "vigorous" wash action is a little TOO vigorous... as one of my shirts came out worse off then when it went in! Read: damaged! It's not bad, just some of the inner lining torn. I guess that's what happens when it's been spoiled in a front load tumble washer since it was new.

Thanks for all you comments guys and stay tuned, as I will post more pix of the newest acquisition once they are home!

ChesterMikeuk… Yes I know, I went from one washer to FOUR in one week!
