I took this pic of my re-done storage trailer back on July 4th weekend. I had taken every machine off, put them on the warehouse floor, kept some off, and reorganized. This little trailer has been on the side of our warehouse until somebody recently decided within the last month to help themselves, I presume for scrap value. EVERYTHING but some agitators is gone.

I have had a mixed set of feelings from this - some of these machines were bothering me because I knew they were junk, I didn't want to deal with them, but didn't have the heart to toss them out. Others though had homes awaiting. It's just a lesson learned I guess, but I thought I'd share the loss in a forum that would understand.

Gone are:

Two older POS dryers (no biggie)
Two white 1965 Lady Ks, both of which were to go to appreciative homes
A 1966 Lady K which was a nice machine
A 1972 Lady K which was to become Kevin's
A 1965 Avocado Kenmore 800 (it was rough)
A 1967 Kenmore low silouette in Avocado (belonged in the dump)
2 1979 Kenmore 500s - I am SORRY James! One was VERY nice
A 1972 Kenmore 60 carcass that I was hoping to restore
A 1973 Kenmore 800 that Jason liked when photographed this year
3 1973 Kenmore plastic top clones, one I liked
A 1975 Kenmore plastic top
7 Whirlpools including a 1969 Imperial 70, a 1985 Imperial 70 and 5 misc. others.

I also had a few spare wash baskets, about 8 rebuildable transmissions, and who knows what else. I am mostly sorry for loosing the Lady Ks, one of the 1970 models, and one of the plastic top machines. I guess it wasn't meant to be that I'd be working on those washers!

At least I got about a dozen machines off that trailer earlier in the last couple years, including a 1964 Kenmore 70, a 61 Seventy w/porcelain cabinet, and a number of others. If those were still on there I'd be dangerous right now.

I am sooo very sorry!

It amazes me how some people feel that they can help themselves to other peoples stuff. Around here you don't dare leave ANYTHING with scrap value outside of your home as the "scrappers" will take it. Though it doesn't always help my anger or frustration, I do believe in Karmic Justice - so they will get what they deserve and hopefully you will get some get machines coming your way...

What a stunning loss. I'm really sorry, G.

I was busy talking to you in the other thread and saw this when I finished. You're sure taking it like a soldier! Did the Copper Lady K you were trading me for the 63 Turquoise survive?

Dam Gordon... that WAY MORE THEN SUCKS!!! I'm REALLY SORRY to hear that happened!

And to think, these were all locked INSIDE the trailer, it's not like they were just sitting outside in a yard or anything. Plus it wasn't just a couple guys with a pickup truck, whatever (A$$H*LE$) did this HAD to have another large truck AND a ramp to load ALL those machines into!

It's too bad those Lady K's are no more... those could have been very nice machines!

Again, so sorry you were violated like that, it's not a good feeling, believe me I know!

Press charges.

File a police report. It's breaking and entering, trespassing, as well as theft. They likely didn't get all that much money from them but filing a police report and pressing charges, if they are caught, would certainly help out your community. In my neighborhood, there are a few known people who break into vacant houses and steal copper water pipes, electrical wiring, etc. It is a horrible thing to do because many people walk away from buying a house that needs major work who would have otherwise bought it. Sometimes they even steal such things from OCCUPIED houses. Even air conditioner compressors.

In my house, the pipes were stolen from the basement. When my housemate bought it, he hired a plumber to put back copper in the basement and get the 1st floor (out of 3) running again. The thieves got about $40.00 worth of copper, but it cost over $2,000.00 to fix. That's why I learned how to solder copper pipe so I could fix the 2nd and 3ed floors. After this experience, if my house is burglarized for its copper again and I am home at the time, there will be severe consequences. I don't believe in vigilante justice, but I most certainly do believe that I can knock out a copper thief by dropping a cast iron skillet on their head to start. Of course I would immediately call the police, but I would certainly take pictures and throw some cast iron. I would also sue for damages.

Sorry, but this subject is a sore one for me,
Dave

Disrespect for Classics

Gordon, I'm sorry to hear about that. It's sad that people have the chutzpah to make off with classic items. Just no respect at all!

Sorry Gordon..

I know some things just can't be replaced...like a few teeth I would knock out of whoever stole this stuff..I hope you find out who did this and press charges.

Sorry to hear the news Gordon - to think another '66 LK went to the crusher. Guess it wasn't meant to be.

Years ago my dad's buddy had a trailer full of SD Pontiac parts stashed in a trailer outside his shop. The trailer had sat in the same spot for years, until one day the friend stopped by the shop to see that someone had busted the lock and taken the trailer. Thousands of dollars of rare Pontiac parts were gone for good. It was a lesson I learned to never leave stuff you want to keep outside - trailer or no trailer.

Sorry to Hear This!

Gordon,

This is a terrible event, to say the least. What was left in the trailer? Gotta a picture of the damages?

That's really a shame, the capacity for evil in people is astounding.

I had a garage rented for storage in an apartment complex for a while with a few classic machines and one new Frigidaire gas, sealed burner range. It was set out for disposal behind Lowes, probably returned or possibly damaged although I could see none. I put it in the garage, locked the door and left. When I got home I discovered that I left all the burner tops, grates and oven racks in the van instead of putting them back in the drawer with the range. A couple of weeks later, I went to the garage and someone had fiddled the lock open and taken just that one range, everything else was where I'd left it. I often think it probably cost more to replace all those crucial parts I'd taken home than the range was worth new.

I've been debating a clean-out of things I have no room, need or time for but would hate to have them stolen!

Karma can be a mean, vindictive woman to those who deserve it - I hope your thieves get their due!

As the day progresses, I am essentially feeling violated at the ballsyness of someone who'd pull these and risk getting arrested for a few hundred bucks. Same feeling most people describe when being robbed. There may be some video footage of the area, and if so, I will be pressing charges if I can.

Both of those 65s haven't been used in 18 or more years and they would have been fun to fix, same for the '66. BUT, what was beginning to stress me is other than the Lady Ks, nobody has been forthcoming in general about wanting any of these, I didn't know what I'd do with them, and I have found it hard to use 5 machines myself let alone 50, LOL. I had segregated the machines back in July, and put the most valuable to me in inside storage.

I do still have one beautiful '65 LK set in Coppertone, and MickeyD's '72 set that I want to trade him is in my garage waiting, fortunately. The machines I wanted the most now just have more value to me and to be honest I am glad to be rid of some of them,

It goes without saying that I would LOVE to de-ball the guys who felt they were entitled to my stuff, scrap or not. I think that is universal in this sort of situation.

On the bright side, it just lets me get more machines!

re: funeral....

Gordon that is truly sad news and I honestly feel bad for you :(. It probably won't do much good but totally agree with Dave about filing a police report. NOt that it will bring back your machines and parts. I too believe in Karma. Thank goodness your '61 -70 was not there as I recall that is one of your dream machines - you'd be goin' postal about now!...

Am Sorry To Hear About Your Loss

But you were not chosen at random, but robbed by someone or persons who must have known what was inside that trailer. One requires a pretty decent sized truck and one or more appliance dollies to shift that many washing machines.

One puts much of the blame on scrap dealers who offer cash and ask no questions when persons show up with items for sale. Scrap and recycle centers should be required to ask for and record some sort of photograph ID, and also out via check. If cash must be paid then there should be a waiting period to give time for LE and or perhaps the media to alert the dealer to theft of items.

Around here they are taking anything metal that isn't bolted down and even then. Bronze doors from cemetary vaults and crypts have been ripped out. Gates that have stood in front of century hold homes taken right off their hinges and so forth. All for the rather paltry amount redeemed in scrap metal prices, which often is no where near the cost of replacing same items, if possible.
