WP/KM DW melted rinse aid plug

See pic. Just found this rinse aid plug on a friend's dw. Is the water too hot or is the solenoid going bad? Any advice appreciated!

Neither,

it looks to have not been locked in the closed position, fell off and onto the heating element, or under it, and got melted during drying.

I was thinking the same thing -

I mean, would it even be possible to melt like that otherwise?

The solenoid is behind the inner door panel and dispenser fill cap of course, right?
