Wringer rollers

I don't know if any out there would could answers the following question?

I have this Maytag wringer model N2PL and I separately purchased the bottom and top Maytag rollers on Ebay a while ago and they are in excellent condition.

When I put the bottom roller in it fits length wise and in the main turning shaft but, when I close down the top part of the wringer both rollers touch each other which is normally the case but, there remains a gap of 1/4 to 1/2 an inch open between two side metal part that hold the rollers. I didn't want to take a risk of forcing lever when turning it to lock the wringer together.

I measured the height of the roller it is 2 and 3/4 inches. Could someone confirm if this should be the normal height of the roller to fit a N2PL and if not what would have been the normal height of a roller for this particular model?

Hi Rene

You might want to press the release bar while simultaneously turning the tension lever counter clockwise. Things may fall into place. This would not be tightening the tension. If that works, then go ahead and carefully turn tension lever clockwise to cause tension and see.

Hi Stan, thanks for your feedback.

I tried your suggestion but, no go. I have included the following pics so you can see what was my concern regarding the size.

You can see the roller on the left side which came with the washer and other one on the right side which I purchased separately. You will notice the difference in gag between locking system with the old verses the newer roller, even do the rollers touch each other when you release top part. I have no problem locking the rollers system with the old roller but, the newer one is an other stroy.

Looks to me like the new roller is larger in circumference the old one and that would probably be the cause for the 2 rollers not closing down properly. I think you were sold the wrong size roller.

The wringers on an N2L versus E2L and J2L are different, I do know that. I'm not sure if the rollers are different, but am wondering if you were sold a roller for an E and J rather than an N. Just an idea...

The wringers on E2L, J2L and N2L are identical and should be completely interchangeable. Any wringer assembly will fit and work on any of those Maytag model wringer washers. If anything the rollers are not the right diameter. I don't know who sold them to you but you may have been slickered!

I was saying I didn't know...and was wondering. There's nothing to disagree with. Besides that, the wringer itself is definitely not identical. Look at the part below the wringer. It's not the same. The N is more rounded.

that the rollers are from a earlier Maytag say a model 30 or 32? Bradboss might know.

Let me help ...

The roller that Rene is trying to install is from a model E or J; they will not work properly in the model N frame; too big. That's why the Rene is not able to properly engage the rollers.

The original roller that Rene had, is correct; it is smaller in diameter.

Yes ... while the wringer HEADS are the same on ALL post-WW II Maytag models (E, J, N), the wringer FRAMES were different. The wringer frame for the Model N was a bit shorter and a bit wider; it fits better over the wash tub.

I wouldn't say Rene got ripped on getting an E or J roller ... he just now has to find a machine for it to go on ... hence the start of a collection!!

So ... if you still have the smaller roller, Rene, put it back on and get to wringing!!!!

Being this was my first Maytag winger,  this was technically my error since I should have ask the appropriate question before purchasing the rollers in question, lesson learned.  Stan, I did keep the original rollers and they will have to do for now.

 

Would you guys know if there is anyone that provided a service that refurbishes wringer rollers?  Well if you any of you know anyone that requires these particular rollers that I just recently acquired  I have the top black one also.  let me know.

Thanks, Geoff. I was hoping you'd see this. I knew you could put a wringer from an E or J on an N, but that they looked different; this accounts for the different roll size. Glad to see you're still around!
