Wringer washer is squeaking

Hi, I have a Speed Queen wringer washer (model fw3093). From what I can find on the ephemura section here it looks like it is from 1975. Today, and the last time I used it a few days ago, too, Something is squeaking. I believe it is in the wringer head. I don't have an owner's manual so I don't know even how to find the origin of the squeak.

Does anyone know where and if I should oil something to make it stop? If so, what kind of lube should I use and how do I keep it from getting on the clothes as they pass through the wringer. I would also love to know how to adjust the tension on the rollers in the Speed Queen.

Squeaking Speed Queen!

I have a Speed Queen model A91P the wringer head if squeeking could be the wringer rolls? Does the squeaking start when the rolls start? If so try putting some Vaseline on the rollers nylon bearings. There located at top and bottom. Look at the metal post that protrudes from the rubber rolls. To tighten the pressure to the wringer rolls look at the bottom of the wringer head take the drain board off you will see better. There is a screw one on each side of lower wringer roll. Un loosen the nut and adjust it.There is a booklet on this web site you can pay to down load only a few bucks. This will show you illustrations on how the proper way to adjust the tension on the wringer rolls. You might need new nylon wringer bearings? They can be purchased at Lehmans Hardware store in Kidron Ohio. This is the ONLY place to buy new not old parts for the Speed Queen wringer washer. Hope this helps you out. Check out the booklet I talked about you will be shown how to replace the nylon wringer roll bearing also. Not very hard to do. Take care Gary.....

so much, Gpevas. I would love to get that booklet here to download. I did search for one but I couldn't find one for my model #. I did see some brochures but not an instructions manual. Could you post the link so I can order it? It would really help to have something visual to look at.

But it sounds,like you said, the squeaking starts when the wringers start. And it's louder when heavier things like blankets, bath mats, and thick towels going through. So I will have to get in there and see what I can do. I'm just afraid to start taking things apart if I don't know how to put it back together again. I think that the booklet may show that...I hope.

And, YAY for Lehman's!!! I absolutely LOVE Lehmans. We used to live in Columbus and would go there several times a year. Because we have a big family I always was able to find pots, pans, bakeware, cooking utensils, etc. that were large enough for my family. I seriously have a collander from them that is so big it doesn't even fit in my sink. So, it is sooooo exciting to learn that I can get new parts for "Bertie" there. So is that because that "Home Queen" they sell has compatible parts? Are they actually made by Speed Queen? How do I know if those parts will fit my model #? Sorry for all questions but it's not everyday that you can talk details with someone about wringer washers.

It seems like there isn't as much variation in the Speed Queen models as there is in the other brands. But that's just observation from afar. Just from looking here and on craigslist.

Hi Lisa, if you give me your email address I will send a copy of my speed queen repair manual with the wringer section. The good thing is lehmans sells parts that WILL fit you speed queen because they Speed Queen that is did not change much over the years with the washer. Speed Queen sold the wringer business so they no longer make any wringers. A Saudia Arabian company bought the machines ect that speed queen had so they make it now. I just bought a set of wringer rolls last month from Lehmans and they are exactly what what speed queen made. Except the paper covering the rolls says Speed Queen in English and Arabic!!!! I am willing to bet you need new rolls and nylon bearings and not in need of adjustment to the wringer rolls. If the bearings are worn and rolls are worn and hard from years of use they will not wring all that well. So I hope this helps. By the way if you replace the rolls and bearings it is easy trust me but I would not suggest you tear into the wringer head ect!!! Unless your very mechanically inclined. I wish I lived close to you I would do,it for you. I love doing this. Take care Gary.............PS yes that's my wringer.

This info will definitely help me do figure my squeakies out. In fact, my birthday is Wed. or next week and I am going to Amish Country to celebrate. Stop #1: Fried chicken, mash potatoes, and yummy pie at one of the Amish restaurants. Probably the one in Charm. Stop #2: The giant lumberyard in Charm. Stop #3: Heine's Cheese Factory to stock up on my bulk spices, flour, cocoa, etc. and Stop #4: The awesomely incredible Lehman's. Maybe they even have the part I need on hand. That would be great.

Have a wonderful trip to Amish Country. I go to my Amish friends the Yoder's once a week in Berlin. There are so many great restaurants in the area. I really prefer the one in Berlin that is truely Amish owned. It is on the main drag of Berlin and the name is Boyd's and something. I think it is Boyd's but I just go by the front of the building. The food is truely all cooked there and the brown bag apple pie is to die for warm or cold. I also go to Lehman's once a month. The guy in the service department way in the back is a very nice guy but very hard to locate. I always have to have someone find him for me. They have very few parts left but he is quite knowledgeable. I have purchased SQ parts there very reasonable. I have even called him and told him what I need and he mails them to me. My Amish Family friends farm is right behind Heini's. Their property borders each other and their store is only a hop skip and a jump down that side road. They have a beautiful amish shop there and sell anything the Amish need and rebuild Maytag wringers to sell. If you should happen to go there be sure to tell them Jim sent you. If you have just a bit of time the trip to Bunkerhill Appliance ran by the Yoder family will be VERY interesting. They won't have SQ parts but have any Maytag wringer washer part available today. Have a great trip!!!!!

Jim....The Maytag E in my pic was restored by them and I just brought her home. She was made in Jan of 1948 and performs flawlessly. Her name BTW is Ethel May Maytag LOL.

for the recommendations. I can't wait to go tomorrow. You mentioned that Lehman's has only a very few SQ wringer parts left. Is that because they have just vintage ones? Or are they able to source new ones from the Saudi manufacturer?

Your Maytag is beautiful. Where did you get your Maytag from? I am hoping to get a Maytag square wringer someday. After filling my SQ once for washing, then draining it and filling it again for the rinse I figured it would be nice to have one going for washing while the other was going for rinsing. It would speed up the process considerably. Plus just the joy of seeing these ladies do their thing.

I will be in Berlin tomorrow ! I will be headquartering at Bunkerhill Appliance getting some Maytag parts and will spend the day with the Family. There are new identical baby triplet boy's I want to see. If you would want to meet for a quick time, if you will have a second, please let me know in club email and maybe we can arrange something. I plan on arriving in Berlin right after lunch and leaving in very late afternoon. I will be making a run back to Millersburg for about an hour but the rest of the time I will be at the Maytag/appliance shop. I hope we can meet while you are visiting Heini's since their properties border and are very close. Have a save trip !!! We can discuss what is available at Lehman's also. I am not sure if they are selling that new Saudi Home Queen anymore because of all of the trouble they have with dependability of them. I know there are some there for sale cheaper that have been returned. They no longer sell many Maytag parts or rebuilt ones. My Amish friends bought out most of their Maytag stock. I missed you, Jim. I was at Bunkerhill Appliance at around 10 AM. Very nice people but no Speed Queen parts. They had some beautiful Maytags, though. WOW! Now i must have one of those! Yours is beautiful and I can see they do a great job.

I hit Lehman's at about 4. They had some Speed Queen parts but the guy who knows about them wasn't in today. The man who was there was really nice and let me come behind the counter to see if I could find the parts I wanted. But they were not labeled and I had no idea what I was looking for. I was trying to get the nylon wringer bearings but I honestly, have no idea what they actually look like. I did buy a strainer, though. Mine was looking crusty.
I did see the whole ringer rolls they had. But they only had a few. I went to get those for when mine wear out but they were $85 a piece. I know I will probably eventually need them and will probably regret not getting them but I just don't have the funds right now. Fun place, though. And I got some great ideas for double washtubs. My new )very old) house has no washtubs so I've been using my wringer in the kitchen off the kitchen sink.

Nylon bearings

Hi there Lisa, I read your message abou going to Lehmans Hardware store never made it there even though I live in Ohio but in Parma Heights a suburb of Cleveland. Anyway I will post a photo of my spare parts for the wringer rolls they are the top and bottom wringer bearings with the white nylon bearings. Lehmans has them I bought them a few years ago. The wringer rolls I know are costly but what a difference though in how they wring!!!! Thanks Gary...........

Lisa I ment to say in my last message the nylon bearings come out of the metal housing so you don't need to buy the whole metal part. Unless it is corroded and must be replaced!

I am disappointed we didn't get to meet yesterday. I didn't get to the shop until 12:30. I spent the rest of the afternoon with them then had dinner with them. They really are wonderful people. I can't help you with any information about the SQ. I have one of the last made I found NIB in PA. I did have to get a belt from Lehman's for it because since it sat in a box since being made in 1990 it was no longer round and was very noisy. I hope you will be coming down to Amish country again and that we can meet. I just wish there was another place I knew of to buy NOS SQ parts but as far as I know Lehman's are the only place. Did you see the returned Home Queens they had in the back? They only look like our Queens and are by no means dependable. Sorry we missed connections.

fellas, for the help with the wringer. Boy I have no idea where I am going to get that part. I guess I could send that picture Gary posted to Lehmen's and see if their wringer washer guy can find the part. They really did not have very much at all. I can't believe someone didn't pick up the Speed Queen wringer distribution in the states. Especially with the whole "go green" movement.

I'm sorry, too, Jim that we missed each other. I can't believe we were both there the same day, too. I would of love to see those little triplets. I have twin boys myself so I'm a softie. Maybe next time we can do it.
Oh, I did ask to see any of the Home Queens and they said they hadn't had any in a while, new or used. I wonder if they are discontinuing them.

I dug out my SQ parts book and found the parts that Gary sent pics of. The part number for the upper bearing holder complete is 02881 and the number for the bearing insert is 04076. For the lower roll the bearing holder complete is 02912 and the bearing insert is 04076. I am going to call Lehman's now to see if they are in stock. BRB. Well, as I figured, Dan is not answering the phone so I left him a message to return my call. I agree 100% with Gary about new rolls working better. SQ rolls are much less expensive than Maytag since they are still supposedly being made. The rolls have to be soft in order to wring well. When they get hard as rubber does they do not remove as much water. I will be going to Berlin tomorrow to get some Maytag parts so will stop at Lehman's on my way home to see if I can find Dan. I am hoping they have the parts you need in stock. I would think they would since they sold those Home Queens. I do think they have stopped selling the Home Queens due to their not being reliable and so very noisy. I will ask Dan tomorrow. I do have an official SQ parts manual if you need any part numbers or whatever. I can always make a copy of a page and mail it to you snail mail. It is also a service manual. It came with my NIB SQ I bought. I will get back with you if and when I hear from Dan either by phone or in person about these bearings. Hopefully you have lubed them heavily with Petroleum Jelly to try to stop the squeaking. I use Vaseline on all of my wringer roll bearings and the agitator splines all the time. More as it develops ! Glad you wrote about the triplets. I had all 3 of them in the recliner with me the other day and what a bundle that was. They are so big and beginning to crawl. They made 7 children for Mom and Dad so that household is a busy one. I would love to post pics of the green SQ's of the past but unfortuately have no way of doing so. I am on the border of being puter illiterate so don't have anything but a puter and printer. They certainly were beautiful and very bright. They were much different than the white SQ's. I will try to figure a way to post the pics here. Later !
