Hi all,
Hope everyone is doing well. I am looking to install a KitchenAid KD-12 dishwasher but after closer inspection the people who removed it did a hack job and I believe messed up the connection to the drain (gravity). Wondering if this part can be sourced or if there are any work arounds?I'll attach a couple pictures. As you can see the part where the drain pipe would attach is all btoken and jagged and I dont believe I will be able to get a good pipe connection.
Thank you in advance
Patrick

That's unfortunate, but so often these old connections break upon removal...

How good a plumber are you?  It may be possible to slip in a piece of pipe, it, then connect that to the drain.  I know you won't have a lot of room to work with if the drain is already in place.  If the drain isn't already installed, I'd suggest coupling a flexible hose to the fitting, then running the hose to a proper drain trap (you'll need that to prevent sewer gas coming back from the drain stack) below the machine's location.

I've got a gravity-drain KD10 that I'm planning on adding a drain pump to just because it won't be easy for me to install a permanent drain (and I like to swap dishwashers around....)

Thank you for the info. Luckily nothing is in place so I have a bit of wiggle room and retro fitting I can do. I think I'll get some flexible hose as suggested and see what comes of it.

Last Valve I bought from Hobart about 10-12 years ago was $260. They are Cast Iron.

I don't think there are any left.

You might go to a Used Kitchen Equipment dealer and ask for a Drain Valve for a UM-4. Rare as Hen's teeth, They may have a scrap machine kicking around.

Good Luck.

looks like a fix is possible

there is enough of that fitting to slip on to. I had one like that and I primed it with rusty metal primer spray paint and added a couple coats of rustoleum. then I was able to find a hose somewhere, home depot, auto parts store, not sure where but I found a hose I could slip over it. I then used pvc plumbing fittings and reduced down and hooked a washer drain pump to it, changing it from a gravity drain to a pump drain.

had to use a relay to turn pump on/off as the dishwasher drain solenoid is on when it closes the drain but that was easy to do. just got a 120 volt relay off ebay for about 5 bucks and wired it up accordingly.

I still have the dishwasher and I did this fix about 10 years ago. so your's can be saved for sure!

just looked at

the one I have, I used a piece of black radiator hose to fit over the stub of the output on the dishwaaher. then reduced down with pvc (home depot plumbing) to attach to the drain pump I took from a Frigidaire front load washer, also attaching with a piece of hose.

Is the broken off piece soldered on there? Maybe possible to heat with a torch and unsolder it, then find a copper pipe that can be resoldered in there.
