Hey Paul :) (&Jon)

Thanks for the info about P&G. I kinda remember seeing that now I see it again. I had forgotten about it. That's a real shame. I do like the tablets as you are still getting your bleach but in a easy to dose form. If I do buy tablets again im going to try and just use 1 tablet as the water is so soft it should be all I need. I still find it hard though to dose correctly. I always overdose as im one of those public that "put a bit more in for luck". I can't help it as ive always done it but am trying my hardest to get out of the habit.

Im definately going to try the Daz concentrated power at some point as it still has that vintage Daz liquid smell.

I ended up not buying the Persil S&M as when we had purchased other items we needed the budget wouldn't allow it so I had to put it back (I had put it in the trolley).
What im using now is some Makro cash and carry colour concentrated liquid which I got ages and ages ago as they were selling it off very cheap as it was end of line. I don't like it as it does not seem to clean that well and it foams up very badly even with just 2 small caps.It also does not smell nice. I had put it on eBay but no takers so im having to use it up.

P.S Paul...If your free next thursday after work do you want to pop round and visit Santas grotto?

I only use one tablet per wash, Two just sudses up everywhere =] in my uni house I have been using ASDAs 2in1 Tablets and they are good, as they have the offer for 2 for £5 at asda

I have some Ariel Tabs as well, but I really cant stand the smell, when i've washed my hands with a towel washed in ariel the pungent smell rubs off on my hands and its foul!!!

I only liked Ariel Tablets when they were Ariel Essential

Much Prefer Daz Tablets and store branded ones now =]

On the subject of Daz, I have tried the concentrated power and its pretty good =]

I have to say I really don't see the issue with the smell of Ariel, I don't find it pungent at all. It's quite a fresh smell, certainly nicer than the scented varieties of Daz. Perhaps it is more of a overdosing/rinsing issue than the detergent itself? They're certainly superior to the Asda tablets and powder we bought to try, ended up throwing them away they were so useless - and I couldn't bring myself to give them away they were so poor.

I've tried cutting down on branded stuff - in general, not just detergents - and asides from washing up liquid, we've found we get better value from the branded products as they clean well first time and often with less needed. Same with mouthwash... even though I use Listerine, a bottle lasts me a lot longer as you only need the bottom 1/4 of the cap, whereas with cheap mouthwash you have to use a whole cap to get the same effect.

Totally agree Jon

Ariel leaves pretty much no scent at all when properly dosed and rinsed out, much prefer it to Daz, Persil and even ariel colour to a degree.

I also find it actually works out cheaper for me to buy leading brand bio powder, as you can use so much less (and lower temperatures) than with non-brand stuff and still get better results.

I find Daz worse than useless when it comes to cleaning, not as bad as Surf but a long way behind even supermarket brands, speaking of which I've got some ASDA 2in1 powder and apart from smelling nice it just dosen't clean a thing.

And yes, the only mouthwash I've found to be worth using is Listerine. :)

Well Jon

I think your wrong there. IMO Ariel reaks, its like a lemony smell, and even with one tablet my clothes stink of the stuf..

and as for asda tabs i think they work well, i don't know what stains you have in your house but i've found that asdas tabs clean away all the dirt

Why pay more for something that smells horrible, when you can get a product that has a subtle smell and cleans well.

I want to be wearing my aftershave and be able to smell it, not the disgusting stench of ariel on my clothes

a) Ariel doesn't "reak" at all;
b) Asda tablets/powder don't dissolve properly, don't clean even light soiled loads, and you have to use twice as much to get a decent result. I have used the colour and moonflower powders and tablets, several times, in several machines, and I've always had the same results;
c) We wash an array of laundry from general everyday soiling, to gardening clothes, my mum and dads dogwalking jeans, baby stains from both ends, baby food, teatowels. Asda tablets left clothes smelling musty, didn't remove a variety of stains, even Sainsbury's tablets performed much better;
d) You don't pay more - a small dose of Ariel, Persil, Bold etc performs much better than a full dose of cheaper stuff - so it's basically false economy;
e) Ariel/Persil do have a subtle smell if you don't overdose;
f) My clothes never smell heavily of detergent nor softener - you know personally that I use small doses of softener - and I can always smell my aftershave as can everybody else from comments I get;
g) to my nose, varieties of Bold and Daz are very heavily scented compared to Ariel, not to mention Surf, but several times you have said in the past to me that you love the smell.

If you're getting a "pungent" scent leftover on your clothes, then either you're overdosing or simply the machine isn't rinsing out properly for whatever reason.

Jon

exactly Jon

Thats basically what I was going to say.

Why would I buy a product that I have to use loads of, dosen't clean, leaves the clothes smelling musty, clogs the dispenser and works out more expensive?

At the end of the day what works for you works for you, but ariel most certainly does not "stink" "reek" and is not disgusting, dosed correctly and rinsed properly it leaves next to no scent.

As for stains I have to deal with think housemates who use dishcloths to wipe sauce/leftovers off plates, don't rinse them out and leave them in a heap to fester for days on end, while continuing to use them, adding to the dirt. Add to that my brother and Dad's filthy football, Rubgy and training kits and often those of the whole teams and you see the kind of stains I'm talking about.
