Speaking of costs

Rick,

I purchased my 1961 Coupe de Ville in 1974 for $325.00. It had a good body, fair interior and about 100,000 miles. I put on brakes and tires, and drove it for 3 years putting on 24,000 miles including a trip to Omaha. Too bad the oil pressure sender started leaking on the trip back, and I lost oil. I had it repaired at the Laramie Wyoming Cadillac Dealer for the cost of the part $4.79. I thought I lost the main seal. After that the car smoked, probably burned the rings partially. But that car was always fun to drive and very powerful with that 390 ci engine, and it did get about 17 mpg on the highway.

Thanks for the info on Seeburg repair. I learned about a local guy from another guy who is selling restored Jukeboxes near here. The recommend seems good, so he is coming over for a service call. His price for amp rebuild is $275.00 plus tube costs, so we'll see. I don't want to ship pieces out at this point, but I may if I don't like this guy.

Here's my Seeburg Select-O-Matic 100G, Seeburg's first High Fidelity Jukebox.

You right Jason! That is a very nice Seeburg Martin!Love it! I am thinking that one is from 1954, is that the right year?

I would love to own one of the earlier models someday. The one with the lighted pillers, and the square selection buttons on the front. 1952 Maybe??? Will have to look it up, when I get home from work.

Seeburg C

That's the Happy Days jukebox (the one that the Fonz hits with his fist to make it work). I remember as a kid seeing that jukebox on TV and going "Wow! You can see the records play". I was a deprived child of the 70s that grew up listening to the later model boxes (where you couldn't see inside).

I am sure you are right on the model number Jason. My catalog does not list the model number for this juke, but here is a photo of it. Would like to find one of these someday too.

I might have sold the Q-160

From one jukebox owner to another.........

Congratulations on your purchase. It certainly is beautiful.
I currently own a 1963 AMI Rowe JAL200 Stereo Round jukebox and it is one of the best purchases I ever made. I hope you have years of enjoyment with it.

Thanks Kevin! If you have a pix of your juke, please post it. Have never seen one of the AMI Stero Rounds.

The AMI's seem to have been rare around here. I have seen one Continental, and a some newer boxes of course, but that is about all. Seems there were lots of Seeburg,Wurlitzer, and some Rock-Olas, but not many AMI's here. From what I understand, the AMI's always had great sound.

I have owned at least one juke since I was 10 years old. Have had a couple Wurlitzers from the early 1960's, then got the Seeburg about 10 years ago. I still have the 1939 Mills Empress that started it all.

It's out at the rebuilder

Ryan just left with the components of my Seeburg. I had him diagnose everything and Jason you were right the main 15" woofer needed to be re-coned. That woofer has a 400 volt coil, no permenant magnet, and the voice coil was rubbing.

Since I already had committed to the amp re-build, I decided to have the selection and mechanism re-built also, to ensure proper behavior and sound. I lost the keys and two of the wheels are shot, so I'll get those too.

The neat thing about these Seeburgs is that all of the individual components come out with a few screw removals and the entire machine does not need to be removed, unless of course, you want all of that re-done too. Mine happens to be in good original condition, not perfect, and I kind of like it that way.

Here is Ryan's link for those in the area that need some work. He'll work with you as to how far you want to go in the restoration.

Glad you are having your amp and speakers rebuilt Martin. Checked out your guys web site, and looks like he is capable of any Seeburg restoration, so you are in good hands. Bet it will sound like new when the amp and speakers are reinstalled. Please let us know how it goes.

Thanks Jon! I am very happy to be able to find this. Have wanted one of these for many years! You are more than welcome to check it out, but give me a few months to rebuild it first. Am sure it will need much work. The owner told me that he bought it in 1977 from the original owners, after it was retired from service. He moved it to his dads house right after he bought it, and it was almost never played. His dad died in 2005, and the house was sold, so the juke has been in an unheated garage since. He has no room for it in his house, so decided to sell.
The V200 comes with the records, so I am thinking it's full of 1970's disco, or even worse, country. However, there is a very remote chance that the juke might be stocked with some vintage 1950's rock and roll, so I will keep my fingers and toes crossed. I have a few thousand 45 rpm records, so either way, I can stock this juke with some great music.

I'll find out this Sunday, late afternoon..... <:

Will do Jason! And I still have to get the LP's down to you also.

I am sending you an email Jason. Relax, it's not as much as you think! <:

OK,OK Beth Ann! lol!! You never call anymore, so I thought you found a new boyfriend! <:

Darrel, thats great!! I love the early Seeburgs the best! Wish they held more records, but the cabinets are just fantastic. Thanks for sharing that!
