I was at a yard sale this morning and I almost got into it with a woman over a piece of Pyrex. I put it down right in front of me to get my money out to pay for it and she reached over and took it. At first I thought she was going for my wallet. She told the man she wanted it and thrust it at him with her money. I told her I was buying it. Thank goodness the man taking the money vouched that he had seen me walking around with it. She put it down so hard I thought it would crack, but it seems ok. We'll see after I use it the first time. May have a hairline I can't see. The man apologized and sold it to me a little cheaper. I told him it wasn't his fault. I said it's bad when yard sales start needing security.

If you don't see anything then the pirex is fine.......

I would have reached her, after having paid, and I would have loaded her like a wheelbarrow out of insults....and  a well deserved kick in the ass if she just tried to reply something that wasn't "sorry I aplogize".
What a bitch! Doing flea markets I see every kind of things of this kind...they never try with me....who knows why?

I know..... unfortunately, not all  vintage lovers, dealers and collectors  like us are nice and correct people though, there're nice people and there're uneducated  and bitchy ones that always think to be smarter than others...

I've seen lots of unpleasant situations......  for example when people  thinks that having questioned just  a thing about  an object before makes it automatically "booked"  for them  and so nobody can take it anymore later...that's a matter happened several times.
And lots of other things....there're crazy  collector and dealers....sharing an interest does not mean they share the same correctness or way of behave.

Andy,

This last winter at an estate sale I encountered a young man who was actually elbowing his way through a crowd of people in the basement of the house where the sale was taking place.  I saw what he was doing and when he was just about to do the same to me I very loudly said "Excuse me Sam".  He gave me a dirty look, turned around on his heel, and beat a hasty retreat upstairs.  Several people thanked me for speaking up, and later when I went to pay for my purchases the gal running the sale who had already been informed of what had taken place thanked me and only charged me ½ price for my entire purchase.  I've met up with this "kid" at other sales since and he avoids me like the plague.  He makes his living as an Ebay power seller, and when he gets into a "zone" he gets tunnel vision and is like a man possessed by some demon.

Ta! Dahhh!

Stopped at Goodwill on my way home from running errands. There was another piece of Pyrex. No one fought me over it this time. This piece is not mint like the other one, but in good condition. A little dirty. I will have fun cleaning it up. And these two pieces today are really old. Really heavy!

It would seem a lot of "yard sale people" are.... or be can be ruthless.   Like the guy elbowing his way through the crowd or the woman trying to snach your purchase away from you, they have a much different mind set.

I suppose different people have yard sales for different reasons.   Some just want to "get rid of crap", others are trying to make money.   On the few occasions I've held yard sales, I try to do both.   I don't want to just give (what ever it is) away for 10 or 25 cents when it"s worth a lot more, but I also don't have a ridiculously high price on "it" either.   The thing that pisses me off the most about the "buyers" I've come across is, they want it "brand new in the original sealed box" for free.   I'm sure you know what I mean.

Years ago I had two Hitichi Chime-O-Matic rice cookers and decided to sell one at our yard sale.  It was in really good condition and I priced it less than half of what they sold for new.   Granted I could have priced it a little lower I suppose, but I figured if it didn't sell I would just keep it.   One woman saw the rice cooker and offered a small fraction of the marked price.   "No, the price is $12".   This woman left in a huff, surprised I wouldn't accept her offer.    She ended up coming back 5 different times throughout the day, trying to grind me on the price each time, but got more and more angry because I wouldn't budge, "No, the price is $12", refusing all of her offers.   I think by the 3rd or 4th time she came back I refused to take a lower price just to spite her.   (hey that was a lot of years ago, I was more subborn then, lol)

OK buckle your seat belts, here's a rant.   Another time we (my family) had yard sale and I had some things to sell, but had to work so I couldn't be there.   I priced everything and we tracked who's stuff sold and for how much.   I had a brand new, never opened, popular board game (Monopoly I think) I wanted to sell.   At the time they were selling for $25 in the store, so I figured $5 is a fair price considering it was still sealed in plastic.   Later that day I got home from work and went over what had sold and the total $$, but the amount was off.   I asked about items that sold and my sister tell me "two older ladies bought that board game"   I asked how much and she said "25 cents".   WHAT?!?   It turns out those EFFING bitches swapped the $5 price sticker for a 25 cent sticker.   ARRRRGG!   That pissed me off more than you can probably imagine.   Damn dishonest people.... sweet little old ladies my ass!

Years ago, we went to look at a Buick Skylark for sale, for my wife's nephew. We stopped at the guys house, met him, and started looking over the Buick. About 5 minutes later, another guy stops, and starts looking over the same car. We were discussing a few thing among ourselves, when the latecomer asks the seller, "can I take it for a drive?"

The seller, a standup guy, says "well this couple was here first, it's up to them". I said "I think we want to drive it" You could see the anger in the other guy!  So he hands us the keys, and we take off. On the drive I told my wife, "you know we're going to buy this car, even if it's a piece of krap". Turns out it was an OK car, so we came back, and offered the seller full asking price, which he accepted. Then the other guy offers $100.00 more! The seller said, "no, I have a deal here," The other guy stormed off!

Some people still do the right thing!

Sorry about your experience, and I'm glad to hear that the seller did the right thing.
I had an experience about a month ago at a second hand store. I was just walking down one of the clothing isles(they are so narrow only one person can get by at a time), as I got to the end, I waited as there was a guy walking by. Instead of passing by he starts to brush past me down the isle I'm in. Mind you this is a narrow isle and I'm standing there. He brushed up against me as he passed by, and didn't even bother to say anything. So I spoke up and said "Excuse you". He gave me the "evil" eye. Turns out he was an employee there.

Mirro

I bought a small bake sheet at the same sale this morning. It will be perfect for my biscuits that eveybody loves. It's by Mirro and it's called Kitchen Pride. That's the first time I have ever seen Kitchen Pride.

If you have a garage/yard/estate sale and people are trying to pay less just tell them "We are selling the stuff here, not giving it away!".

One time I brought a whole bunch of old clothes to a neighbors yard sale on a day where I was out of town on a trip. I told the neighbor to try to get a good price for the items. I had at least 20 shirts and 10 pairs of slacks over there.

When I came back I asked the neighbor how much the clothes brought in as they were all gone. The neighbor handed me $5.00 and said she had a customer who'd take the whole lot, so she handed me $5.00 and took all of your clothes."

Never again!

Now the neighborhood busy body across the street really knows how to do a garage sale. She has price stickers on everything and then she has a clip board with everything to be sold on there. She writes down the amount she received for each item sold. It's very effficient.

Oh well, we started talking about price...that's a thing that I ALWAYS experience, well, I tell you, I usually start a little high with pricing so that I can offer a small discount that makes people happy...
Other times there're people who insist so much  to get down  the price to the half or even less,  rudely also, and to which I just say "NO WAY, BYE" and they goes a little pissed... I tell you, these people most of the times comes back  at the end saying: "Okay, well, give me for them price you made me before" with an annoyed tone almost like if they were doing me a favor .... wanna know my response?: Sorry now is the double for you!
Ask a small discount may be okay...not doing like this....piss me off so much!
