Finally after all these years I don't have to sit and wait and wait and I can see videos etc. What I'm enjoying most though is Google Earth. I can't believe how close up it gets to my house I can even see the driveway and the garden paths in the backyard. Then zoom along down the street to moms place.. LOL Even found my cousin in the UK's house which came thru pretty clear.. some of the country places aren't so clear though.

Congratulations, High Speed is the only way to go. Isn't it amazing at the amount of stuff you can surf is such a short time? And also how much time you used to spend waiting for screens to finish resolving?

High speed is great

I just got high speed in December and I love it.

I'm very thankful for our current technological advances. Thanks to NOAA and their satellite images after Hurricane Rita, I was able to tell if my house and business had damage before we were allowed back into our town. You could see the telephone poles down in the street and even see roof damage.

How high is HIGH

There's a speed testing site where you learn how fast you're actually going. I think DSL only goes about 768kbps, whereas my cable modem provides speeds around 6000kbps, or 6mbps.

Try going here and taking this speed test.

It says I've got 1375 download 375 upload. Still in all it's a mega difference to what I had before.. We had trouble getting it started and the Bell repair guy came to the house to check the line and said we barely had enough signal strength to get DSL. He told me, wasn't supposed to, that we'd be better off getting cable. Bell here only provides DSL. We'll probably switch to cable internet and phone in a few months as a whole package deal which will be cheaper, I hope.

DSL is coming!!!

They're running the lines are whatever for DSL here in my neighborhood and it should be available in February. YAY!!!! No more retarded dialup and now I can watch Youtube videos! YAY!!!!!

Used to have Comcast....

I was very happy with cable internet. Then I found out I could get FiOS, from Verizon. I thought I was fast before....Now I'm REALLY fast! I've got the fever people! =)

I thought American Eagle sold clothes lol.

The Cables are being run to the poles on the streets now so it won't be long before I can ditch my dialup modem.

Cable vs Fiber/Telco

There are way more service (and customer service) complaints with cable companies than there are with the phone companies. Both Verizon and AT&T are working feverishly to get fiber to each individual home. When that happens, cable is going to get blown away, which they deserve to be. Almost every time I choose to read the "action line" column in my local paper it's got somebody complaining about their cable service and associated ineptitude and/or lack of customer service. Being a monopoly, the cable companies can use the old Lily Tomlin (Ernestine) line about Ma Bell in the 70's: "We don't care, we don't have to" and it's pretty clear that they do take that approach.

The only reason I keep my cable is because I have 5 TV's in my house. With a dish, that means 5 set-top boxes but with cable you can have basic service without a box. Once Verizon starts offering TV service in my area, I am so done with Comcast. All the cable companies are just a bunch of arrogant thieves. The telcos aren't perfect angels but are so steeped in regulation that they are compelled to provide better service than the cable companies can even comprehend.
