Found it in the scrap yard at the back of an electrical retailer in Ledbury, so I had to going in and ask if I could have it.

Looking much better for a scrub.

I had to put a load in the minute I got it out of the car, it could have flooded the garage (would not have been the first) or could have fried myself (also would not be a first) all seems fine needs a new door seal as it has gone sticky and dripped on the edge of door.

But then the first interim spin and a loud banging sound, my first thought was the spider may have cracked, blood hell; the bearings are sound and will have to strip down and fit new spider and bearings.

Turns out that the weight at the bottom is loos and smacking the bottom of the enamelled tub, so will sort that out when I fit the new door seal. Just hope the the enamel is not damaged as the tub look OK.

The timer click so loud just like the Liberator I had, Dad says that a skips on order, so I have changed the lock on the garage door and have the only key.

Congratulations on a superb find! I am so pleased that nother 18680 is in good hands and that it is in such good condition.

It scrubbed up really well and it is great that the facia has retained its perfect shine. Beware what you use on the facia as they have a tendency to 'fog up' if given the wring treatment or are kept in the wrong conditions.
The 18580 facia below is a case in point:

Your machine came off the production line only a wee bit after the 18680 that mine and rob's mate found and was produced the same month - September 1982.

Here is the info on the back of our machine (date code is 57):

I dont quite know what the difference is between the 18580 and the 18680.
Indeed it seems to be a very confused model - a mate has some replacement facia stickers for this model and they are in brown (see piccy below)!

I had always assumed that the 18680 was effectively the brown variable from the last series.

Whether our machine and yours are effectively prototype machines (as they were from the same month of production), employing the last remnents of the 18580? I just dont know.

Will have to amend my hotpoint 18-series spreadsheet to include two versions of 18680:

Question for you Lee...

How did the guys in the store react to, what must be to them, a rather unusual request of a scrap machine? How did you approach them?

I am really so very pleased for you and really pleased for the machine too. It is in really good condition.

The lady owner of the shop was lovely, did not bat an eye lid,

She has promised to keep a look out for any other old Hotpoint’s for me.

She kept it for me for over a week, and even covered it with a plastic sheet, and then she help me lift it in to car today.

I asked if any one else had ever asked for scrap machines which she replied no, she also told me that she had never seen a machine like this and remarked on the build quality.
