Last week I spotted a Philco "advanced design" ac unit from the mid 50's. I'm guessing it was from around 1953-55. The design was very similar to the GE a clubmember recently found. It stuck inside the window as much (if not more) than the outside. It was a 230 volt unit. I was going to pick it up this weekend while I had my brother-in-law's truck but when I went back someone had beaten me to it. Oh well. The "off-fan-cool" rotary switch was on top of the unit and the thermostat was on the right hand side. I thought it unusual that Philco didn't have all the control knobs next to each other. Does this model rihg a bell with any of you AC or Philco affecionados?

hi

Hi Les,
Wow, what a shame, that you missed it, I am sure you were disappointed to say the least. I am the one who found the 50's GE a little over a couple months ago. I honestly no little about old AC's except for the two different models I grew up with which were a late 60's Carrier and a late 60's "Comfort-Aire" brand. I do remember all the specs on those two. Both push button controls. The Carrier had four big pushbuttons. I would have loved to have seen pics of your find. Better luck next time :)
