Multiplying on a 10 key adding machine

Something not in the list was having to multipy on a 10 key adding machine.

235 x 143

235 +++ 705
2350++++ 10105
23500+ 23500

33605

I used to could divide but brain is way to old now.

When I first started as a programmer used octal based 000 to program for Texas Instruments then to decimal and then to hexidecimil. On the octal systems had to use a slide rule for some of the programming. The programs were punched on a Friden Flexowriter to a 1 inch wide paper tape with holes punch.

N.C.R cash register

Ah Ronhic, then you must have used them as well in your past, the noises you quote are pretty spot on,the other thing which was good about those cash registers was the ability to operate them during a blackout, which happened frequently in the centre where my Woolies was located, you simply screwed a handle into the right side and another person could crank it after you pressed the price keys in.
Aahh! memories, and mostly happy ones at that.
Cheers.
Steve.

I've never actually used one and am about 5 1/2yrs your junior. Bar code scanning was just starting to come in when I started casual work at SuperKmart (remember them?) in Canberra so we never had manual entry.

...but I do remember being taken shopping at Woolies and Coles in the mid-late 1970's....

The other noise that sticks in my head is the 'ka thunk, ka thunk' of the pricing 'stamp' and then 'pricing gun'

Getting older.......

Hi.
I know Im getting old because , a pair of slippers and a cardigan look "comfy" to me !
When you realise todays music is just "noise" .
When tea and scones have more appeal than a night out clubbing.
Oh, and when you see a policeman who looks 18 yrs old !
When my greying hair makes me think it gives me "character" .
Kindest regards.
Louis.

At 25 years old I will agree with that one.

The novelty of a hangover went out years ago for me although I am still prone to having the odd drop on a late night out.
The next day is always hell.

You bring the clotted cream and il provide the rest :)

Clubbing Days -A distant memory !

Hi Aquarius1984.
Thank you for the invite.
Date scones are my fave.
My last "clubbing " venture was back in 2004 in Leeds.
Never again !
We looked like 3 old age pensioners . No Joke !
Long gone are the HI-NRG 80's although, a retro club may tempt me out of hibernation.
Thankfully , I have my 80's HI-NRG music collection .
Kindest regards to you.
Louis.
