Yes, the wall oven was seen at night, while just going out w/ some mail...

 

Another "through the window" to the extreme: The top of a Side by Side fridge that looked like it was in Coppertone, but I think turned to Stainless, or might'a been all along... I drove by a house where that somehow noticeably got seen...

 

I remember a newly-discovered hallway at my high school housing the big home economics dept. (which I wish I had taken!) that had a gallery of Westinghouse electric ranges, a stacked White-Westinghouse washer & dryer, and a built-in cook top & double wall oven, also Westy's the teacher used...  This was the '80's, but all were still-working '70's, including the one, or two Westinghouse fridge/fridges, seen through the long window, along the hallway I had just not til that moment, that day, ever trod...!

 

The middle school I had attended had two Home Ec rooms, three counting an un-used one, still housing a single oven Frigidaire wall oven & pushbutton GE cook-top, and peeking in the working class rooms saw, in addition to the usual Westinghouse stock had Caloric gas ranges--plain ones that only had Self-Clean...! (Later, I worked for the school library & got to make rounds going to classrooms, in MS & HS, so I got to go into the former, but not the latter--there went to other non-HE rooms via that corridor...)

You can equate Don Henley's "Dirty Laundry", about TV news reporting from an Anchorman's point-of-view, in a world of media sensationalism and yellow journalism (I remember hearing that song for the first time) with what that song sounds like in the literal term (and likening those sound effects to laundry equipment!) as in dirty clothes--and of course, stuff "aired in public", another literal term, hence the name of one of Forums here at AW...!

You finally do peer around that corner through the open door at your health club's laundry to see a humongous washer & equally gigantic dryer and even a freight elevator w/ a red light to tell you it's In Use as well as a few other details & items, though can't recall much else about the electronically controlled appliances as in brand name, or anything like that...

Yes, "I Did!"...

When you try to sell a replacement plan for a blender (after the person buying it just made you reduce the price to "what he saw it marked for in the aisle") just for him to turn it down, then almost dropping it in his shopping cart yells out "Osters are JUNK, unless it's my '73!" (just randomly gave out a "Harvest Gold-EN Year")...

 

Since this was one of the new R2D2-looking droids, as opposed to it being my last-"decently-built" machines from 2007--Red & All--from the last good era for it to be still going strong...  Whereas this new Two-Thousand-Fifteen, one WILL need that replacement plan before even ONE of the proposed two years (for a MODEST amount, mind you!) passes...

You get brave enough at the hair salon to try to peek through the door to the back room (still shuttered) to make out a bank of white appliances meaning a washer & dryer for laundering towels, smocks etc.--hey, there is a dryer vent sticking out of the wall at the front of the store I work at! Just not enough steam coming out of it to make it look like a fire...! LOL...

 

You're warned NOT to be peering in through the door at that neat, same FORTY-INCH FRIGIDAIRE electric stove, when, years before, my sister & I (chaperoned by an "older person" going to the door with us, warning me "what could happen") were going trick or treating on Halloween & some old man lived there (who didn't seem to want to be pulled away from his card game with his buddies, yet had his porch light on, passing out candy anyway!)

You had your head buried in your local newspapers' classified ads & even regularly bought classified ad publications such as AUTO SWAP and TRADIN' TIMES, even if you'd never bought any of the actual appliances, vans, trucks, automobiles for sale, but were there to look (& perhaps browse through the latter's Personal Ads) and loved what you saw that years later you see & learn more about here...! (& other places, after the dominate Hard Copy Media Age, Online...!)

You worry you'll damage your washer if you change the speed while it's running (you would if it's an Olde Tyme GE Filter Flo) so you turn it off (I don't know WHY I had mine washing on Delicate/Extra Slow (with a Slow Spin), almost the entire length of MY clothes in the machine before I realized I forgot to turn the knob to Regular/Slow (with a Fast Spin) after I was washing my daughter's clothes; at least I'd changed the Temperature while it was filling (Warm/Cold to Cold/Cold)...)

 

You remember a commercial for a radio station showing a man washing the dishes to Bruce Springsteen's "Hungry Heart" (Hey, it's the 35th Anniversary of The Boss's THE RIVER album!) and the light fixtures over the sink & the main area of the kitchen look like the exact same globes in mom & dad's (right down to my dad being the one who did--and still DOES!--EVERY dish, pan, pot, tableware, utensil, cup, glass, bowl, etc. BY HAND!!!! (Also looked like the actor (an African American guy, actually) even liked the song to do it on the radio spot, and maybe enjoyed doing the dishes in the wee hours, as seemed to be depicted, which was when my dad did 'em, too...)

You watch what seems like far too many people posting on threads that sound mundane or
Otherwise unworthy you your time to take a look...the number grows, and grows(!) and finally you cave in and see about whatever-the-hell has got everyone so abuzz...prolly Laundress holding forth on a vintage detergent or some such thing...and in so doing you keep finding out there is so much more to find out.

If someone posted this same basic thought earlier, well, cheers, great minds think alike ;-]

You remember back in 2nd grade, a school project where you bring in empty food containers to learn about volume, weights and measures and one of the containers you bring in is an empty Kleer-Vue windshield washer solvent jug, and another is a 9 Lives cat food can...

You remember back in the white Bradford dishwasher days your dad loading/unloading the dishwasher, filling it w/ the powdered detergent, hooking it up (it was a portable) turning it on, and all! (Though when it went kaput, it was washing everything by hand--HIS hands!)...

 

And your dad mixing the powdered milk (God knows why we had that stuff, that I don't really remember actually drinking--and thread idea: Powdered Milk: Does anyone still drink? What purpose does it serve?)

 

So you carry on tradition, being the family Dishmeister (I am charge of the frustration of getting everything in the D-W to fit!) and making the Kool Aid...! (WE are for PIMM'S! Pimm's BERRY Punch...)

 

Not to mention the tradition of living in our middle-class Detroit-suburbs (city of Oak Park, MI) that seems to hover over me, when in front of our house, shoveling snow...

You finagle your washer to do what you want for a given load.

I always use diagnostic mode on my Calypso to purge the hot supply line to insure the wash fill starts immediately at the target temp ... and I always choose a Hot fill with my tankless water heater set at the desired temperature.

Ran a huge load of grungy whites this morning, starting with a 95°F soak/prewash.  1.5 tbsp STPP, 4 tbsp Biz powder, 4 tbsp Fresh Start.  Stopped the cycle at end of the soak period, went into diagnostic mode to run 3 mins of nutation (diagnostic mode automatically exits after 3 mins).  Let it sit for 10-ish mins, then drain/spin at 400 RPM with a HOT (140°F) spray rinse to preheat the load.  Whitest Whites cycle at 140°F wash, 1.5 tbsp STPP, 4 tbsp Persil 2-in-1 liquid, and 1/2 cup LCB (timed dispenser releases at last ~3 mins of the wash period).
