What's everyone's favorite way of dryer mines tumble drying towels and sheets and line drying clothes

I've used lines when I had them but for a very long time tumble exclusively. Nice gentle 120V Lady Kenmore takes her time but hotter dryers can burn the detergent fragrance and that smells really nasty.

love towels and sheets out on the line, sheets stay fresh for days.... and towels although a little crunchy...seem to absorb more than when dried in the dryer.

I would line-dry everything if I had enough clothesline space in the sunlight.  there is only a tiny little corner of the yard which isn't under a thick canopy of trees and that's where I have my garden.

Air Drying Is My Favorite

I bought one of the Antonius drying racks from IKEA a while back, and I love it. It was the best $40 investment I have made. It has 47 yards of of line space on one rack. I hang all my towels and socks and unders on that, along with t-shirts, lounge pants, etc. Loaded properly, I can get a week's worth of my misc washing on it....about 4 wash loads.

 

I have a tripod rack for my business clothes. Everything gets a good shake from the washer, and shirts go on hangers wet, and pants on special pants hangers. It has space for up to 36 hanger dried garments. Plus, I haven't had to iron in months....gravity takes care of the wrinkles that used to get set in with the tumble dryer.

 

The only time I use my tumble dryer anymore is for sheets when it's rainy out, and for things like pillows which need the heat to dry without mildewing. I tumble dry maybe a load every 1-3 weeks, depending on weather. It's definitely made the electric bill go down several dollars.

OUT DOOR DRYING

Can smell much better than drying clothes in the stale air in many basements and homes. Over 10 years ago I installed an 1978 WP Imperial Mark 12 all electronic gas dryer on my screened porch and I am constantly amazed at how nice the clothing smells as it comes out of the dryer. And because it gas it doesn't have much affect on the electric bill, it does add $2 or 3 to the monthly gas bill for the roughly 10 loads that are dried per month, but as an added benefit I am not pulling heated or cooled air out of the house and I have less dust in the laundry room and house as I often fold the clothes outside.

Favorite is line drying,

Have to tell this weekend I did bedding.  It was 102 with 20-30 MPH winds.  By the time I got to the other end of the line, the first things I put out were already dry.  I actually took the twin sheets back in with me, but left the full sheets out for about ten minutes longer and they were completely dry.  They were so warm they felt like they just came out of the dryer.

I love line drying sheets and towels.  But, alas, I have no room for a line anymore.   I do dry my polo shirts on a drying rack in the laundry room.  They dry nicely and wrinkle-free.  I use the "reduced wrinkles" final spin on my BOSCH FL washer when I wash my polo shirst and fold them over hangers when they are dry.  No stretching for shrinking.

When grow up, mom always hung the clothes outside weather permitting, and during the winter hung them up in the basement next to the furnace.  Then 1972 we got our first dryer, and would still hang outside unless it was raining.  I love the smell of sheets and pillowcases when hung outside to dry, don't really mind towels that were hung outside.  Now jeans that's a different story, they stiff as boards when dried outside.

 

The only other thing that I didn't like hanging on the line outside was my jockstrap from PE, LO.  I was really embarrassed as a young man to hang that out for everyone to see. LOL

I'm almost certain at one time there was a dryer with an ultraviolet lamp inside to simulate the 'line dry' smell.

i line dry everything excepet things that crease. creasables go to the dryer so they dont need irionin and i tumble dry pillowcases. i hang my jeans on our enclosed veranda t avoid fading. and when the towels come off the line i put them and jeans in the tumble dryer for about 10 mons on air dry just to soften them. but i agree - line dry sheets are the best! but when it rains i tumble everything

<span style="font-size: small;">I line dry every thing, weather permitting. If it’s a wet day I dry on a wooden cloths horse standing over the gas hot air central heating outlet which is in the floor, no need for a tumble dryer.</span>

Under certian cuircumstances,

Line dry, tumble dry but most often use ye old creda debonair.

Line dry almost everything at all times but on occasion when, in the winter I have a lot of laundry to do, I will put some of it through the dryer just to get it out of the way but dislike tumble drying clothes as a rule.

In the summer peg out on the high line & finish off in my Hotpoint TC71 Ultima condenser dryer to soften them. In the winter on the radiators,banister rail & on clothes maiden finished off in the dryer. Always wanted to know why my TC71 dryer was classed as a Ultima when it has got a mechanical timer like the Aquarius condenser dryers. Has anyone got any ideas because i'm sure all Ultima's even back then were push button sensor dryers.

for me all of my clothes are always dryer dried the only things are curtains and carpets but the rest evrything go in the dryer summer like winter

Press them dry! The smell is fantastic. And you can chop vegetables with the sharp creases!

 

John I'll have to pump in fresh air ducts to all my dryers in the basement!
