Your favourite radio station if you have one

My favorite station is Houston's Classic Rock 93.7 The Arrow (KKRW) which, like its name says, plays 60's--80's classic rock. It also features the Dean & Rog morning show, which is HILARIOUS especially when they do the birthday scams and song parodies by "The Dean & Rog Singers".

I also started listening to Oldies 107.5 KLDE for the first time in years, as they've completely revamped their selection, FINALLY eliminating the s**t from the 50's (just what it was; slow, miserable songs) and playing more "upbeat" stuff, classic rock & the like.

For modern "alternative" music, I like 104 KRBE and 94.5 The Buzz (94.5 formerly held the oldies station), and for country 100.3 KILT is the best! Sadly, the station where my mom DJ'ed at in the 80's, Rock 101 KLOL, was changed over to yet another damn "Latino" Mexican station (like we really needed THAT, but I will admit, the quality of that station did go down the tubes way before the changeover). However, Rock 103.7 KIOL emerged, and will have to tune into it one of these days. Not sure what they offer but I heard it was well-liked by Houstonians.

What's interesting is that Tucson also has a "modern" station at 104.1 FM that seemed to play many of the same groups KRBE does (All American Rejects, Green Day, etc.). It was playing at Nate & Melissa's house during the Sunday morning wash-in.

I get WSM through Sirius but sometimes I can pick it up via antenna late at night. Out in the country, you can surf AM and try to pick up far away stations.

My new stereo is definitely a station puller-inner so I'm gonna put her by the window and try to get some far away stations.

KCSM-FM San Mateo, "The Bay Area's Jazz Station". Being a public radio, it has virtually no commercials, just jazz day and night.

KKSF-FM San Francisco, light jazz. Used to be my top favorite, but it seems since they were taken over by Clear Channel they tend to play the same tunes over and over, including Fat Burger's merciless butchering of Santana. Still, it can be relaxing and classy. KKSF puts out an annual CD called the Sampler for AIDS Relief - excellent collections of the top light jazz hits of each past year. And the proceeds go to a good cause.

KDFC-FM Palo Alto. Classical. Horrible commercials, but of course the music can be very stress-relieving. I like to have it on at work if I'm close enough to mute it during the commercial breaks.

KBLX San Francisco - "Soft and warm, the quiet storm". Black soul/jazz/pop, like a hipper version of KKSF.

Others - occasionally I'll tune in a C&W, Oldies, Rock, Mexican, or even a talk radio station for variety.

Austin, that 104.1 in Tucson was an awesome station. I had it on in the car the whole time, and I thought it was the one playing at Nate and Melissa's.

Mine was WCBS-101.1FM New York's Oldies Station. Over the years, they moved from 50's & 60's to 60's and 70's with some 80's. Sorry, but I disagree about 50's music being all slow crap. I didn't like some of it either, but let's not write off all of it. They also had some of the greatest DJ's
in the business. These guys were really the heart and soul of NYC and the 5 Boroughs. Harry Harrison, Ron Lundy, Dan Daniel, Bobby Jay, Bob Shannon - they made you feel as if they were spending the day or night with you. Unfortunately, last June 3 without any warning to the public or to the DJ's themselves, at 5:00pm the station switched to the "Jack" format - no DJ's, only automated voices and only one oldies song every few days. They have since been near the bottom of the ratings heap.

The only other oldies station was WKHL (KOOL 96.7FM) out of Stamford, CT. As of last week it was now 96.7 - the COAST modern mix.

Next up for oldies are WDRC - 103.5FM in Hartford and B-103 on Long Island - neither of which I can get.

Otherwise I will listen to WOR 710AM - interesting all talk, but the hosts are shameless hucksters for their sponsors.

Though I speak no Spanish I will listen to MEGA 98.7FM - fun music and the DJ's sure sound like they are having a great time - even if I can't understand them.......
