Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

OK--I like old rattle traps with character.

I lied, have to take back some of that statement. I lived in a house like "Green Acres". I didn't have to climb the pole to use the phone, but I did have to go to the back yard to take a crap.

Donna Reed's

Which was the same as Dennis the Menace's.

With two kids, what could be better than a live-in pediatrician with an on-prem office?

Nice, bright, airy house. Tasteful furnishings. Dressing for dinner! She had a gas stove (I have a picture of her with it, but I can't identify the make).

The Cleaver's house was one of the few where you actually saw a bathroom.

Funny that most sitcom houses did not feature a television. Rob and Laura Petrie had an upscale house, expensive-looking kitchen appliances, but only a crappy 16-in. B&W portable on a tubular stand in the LR. Wassup wit dat?

My favorites

I always had a fascination for the Adam's Family home as well as the Munsters' Home. For the apartments I would have to say Ann Marie's apartment on That Girl, or Chief Ironside's apartment on Ironside and of course the apartment on Family Affair. For homes I liked the Bunkers home on All in the Family, Andy Taylor's home on Andy Griffith Show and Dr. Peter Brady's home on H.G. Wells' version of the Invisiable Man.

It was a dump

but I always liked the Douglas' kitchen on Green Acres. The pink Mobile-Maid and Maytag washer-dryer made up for it! The refrigerator (pink) had an unusual handle - I have never figured out who made it... And some episodes show a honking big 40 inch GE range in pink.
The charred outlets near the 'plug board' reminded me of some real scary wiring in an apartment where I once lived, too...

If I remember right, whatever appliances Lisa was using had to add up to 7 and no higher or the generator would blow. Reminds me of the house my mom and I lived in once, and an old apartment that I once lived in.

For some reason, I thought Lisa appliances were Frigidaire, but they were sure purdy in pank!

Sitcom Fave Houses

Several homes come to mind for me.

1. The Munsters house
2. Cleavers house (rumor has it was also Marcus Welby M.D.'s
too)!
3. The Stephen's home
4. Wayne Manor (with the Bat Cave intact)!
5. My Three Sons home
6. The Clampett Mansion
7. The Donna Reed home
8. The Patty Duke home
9. The Farmer's Daughter home (with the riding stair chair)!

Generator?

Does anyone have a still pic or a video clip of the charred outlets and the plug-board on Green Acres?

Oh yeah, Congressman Morley's house in Farmer's Daughter with that oh so intriguing stair chair. I recall one episode where Katy was celebrating something and dancing her way up the stairs--in the chair--and got caught in the act.

Cold Water

Tenament flat.

All to common in NYC, and many other urban areas until laws and zoning rules made for better multifamily housing.

One can imagine why post WWII, so many American families were looking forward to, if not demanding better housing, and why places such as Levittown in LI (and elsewhere), seemed like heaven on earth.

Rock Hudson: McMillan & Wife they had a nice house, and the kitchen had what i remember as a 36 inch gas stove with eye-level oven, in coppertone yet. "Sally & Mildred" were in the kitchen a lot. Anybody remember Sally's stove?

I am surprised that more people didn't choose the MTM apartment with the sunken living room. I've heard that many people have gone to the home pictured in the opening to the show asking to rent the space, only to find out that it is only a vacant attic space. MTM productions also got requests for plans for the space for others to build one of their own.
