Just has a whale of a time searching youtube for various Theme tunes off TV.

I have a selection of all time favourites so whats yours?

Im old enough to remember all 3 Grangehill opening titles but I cant decide which one was the best.

Its between the original and the 1990s one.

One classic to the next - Mum this programme. Possibly the no.1 fan !

I used to love the theme song although Beryl crying every 5 minutes was hillarious the way she used to cup her face in her hands LOL

Dallas, I dream of Jeanie, Designing Women, The Munsters!!!!

of course I'm a trumpet player so that is probably why I like these so much.

My all time favorite is . . .

Perry Mason, followed by (in no particular order) the Dick Van Dyke Show, Green Acres, Bewitched, the Patty Duke Show, and I Dream of Jeannie. There is a really fine version of the Dick Van Dyke theme by Nelson Riddle which appeared on an Ultra-Lounge CD about 10 years ago . . . well worth buying.

Why do modern TV themes range from forgettable to really dreadful?

They're creepy and they're kooky--

mysterious and spooky

They're altogether ooky,

The Addams Family!"

My second choice would be "The Rockford Files."

Lawrence/Maytagbear

Oh yeah, Agiflow is right . . .

Hawaii Five-O is one of the all time greats, by the Ventures even! Wish they'd been playing that when I dropped by happy hour at Tiki-Ti last night in Silverlake. It is my favorite bar ever and the thought of sipping a Black Widow while admiring the stuffed blowfish on the ceiling and listening to the Five-Oh theme is just sublime. I'll have to suggest that to the owner next time I'm there.

*YEARS* (in the 1970s) ago I recorded bunches of TV show themes onto cassettes. I ran across one of the tapes about 10 years ago, it was fun trying to figure what were some of them, particularly those with no lyrics. That tape may still be around here somewhere.

Doctor Who...

Preferably the 1970's theme, that was used for Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker. That was the spookiest version.

The latest versions are far too orchestral.

Pebble Mill @ 1

Rob....

Surely you cant remember this- you would have been far too young surely lol??

Seamus
P.S
Rolls- I agree Tom Baker WAS Dr Who- where did he get those scarves !!

If its really Spooky music ya want does anyone from the UK remember the 2nd version of the schools programme Picture Box- or Tales of the Unexpected lol!

Pebble Mill... even I remember that! with Alan Titschmarsh... but it might have been a later version cos it was before the 1 o clock news.

(I used to love days off school - Good Morning with Anne and Nick, then Pebble Mill, Going for Gold, and a treat to see Neighbours in the afternoon instead of at 5.35!)

The BEST theme tune ever has to be this:

Jon...

Me thinks Pebble Mill may have gone on for longer than I thought...lol.

Ya defiantly cant remember Tom Baker as Dr Who tho ;)

Seamus

And excuse me Nick but Neighbours is far from pants! :-D

Not really a theme tune, but this is the TV ident I grew up with... me and Matt were both talking earlier how symbolic the yellow 'Y' and the fanfare was in our childhood!

(in the last ident of the set, is shots of different parts of Lincoln Cathedral)

My favorite vintage TV them song is "Phyllis" Loved the video that went along as well.

Honorable mention would have to be the theme from the Jack Benny Show that plays during the un-ending credits.

And now from Norwich........

Its the quiz of the Week........

Anyone from the UK who is about my age or older WILL know what ident went with that lol!!;).

Hint- This wasnt our local region but was/is ajoining- Rediffusion had this as our secondary ITV region lol!

Seamus

Loved all the music from

The Price Is Right

DUN dun da-dunnnn.

And I always laugh when someone loses..

"Boomp Boomp Ba-Boom... waaaaaaaaahhhh..."

Lord, don't get me started....

So many hours wasted in front of the tube, and so many favorite themes.

-Bewitched (Season 3 version best)
-I Dream Of Jeannie
-Silver Spoons (the first one)
-One Day At A Time (some people will hit me for that!)
-The Honeymooners
-Alice
-Phyllis (that theme was the gayest thing on TV, besides Paul Lynde perhaps)
-Carol Burnett Show
-Too Close For Comfort
-Three's A Crowd
-Land Of The Lost
-Gimme A Break (the second version)

and many more, of course. I sure do miss when shows had distinctive themes, unlike now where they fill the time with as many commercials as possible.

My all-time favourite has to be "Love Is All Around" from "The Mary Tyler Moore Show".

But I also have a very soft spot for this one:

Ground Floor: Perfumery, Stationery and Leather Goods, Wigs and Haberdashery, Kitchenware and Food- Going up!

First Floor: Telephones, Gents' Ready-Made Suits, Shirts, Socks, Ties, Hats, Underwear and Shoes- Going up!

Second Floor: Carpets, Travel Goods and Bedding, Material, Soft Furnishing, Restaurant and Teas. Going down!

Yep- It's the theme from "Are You Being Served?" Great show, though I understand not quite as beloved in Britain as it is here. I also love the themes from "Last of the Summer Wine" and "The Vicar of Dibley".

doctor who for me

I am with rolls-rapide on this subject it is Doctor Who for me Jon Pertwee first and then Tom Baker,Thunderbirds,Dallas and Superman with George Reeves,The Tomorrow People.

Rob, Jon and Seamus, I remember all of those programme, tunes and idents! :-)

And the answer, Seamus, is… Anglia Television!!! :-) The spinning knight! LOL :-)

I liked the 90s Grange Hill theme tune. :-)

My favourite TV theme tune has to be. umm… Click the link! This is the full version of the tune! LOL :-)

Carl :-)

"Yep- It's the theme from "Are You Being Served?" Great show, though I understand not quite as beloved in Britain as it is here"

Not in this house - we LOVE Are You Being Served. I may have posted this clip before but hey, who cares??

Mine is......

The Golden Girls.

"Thank you for being a friend." I believe these lyrics were originally penned by a gent named Andrew Gold. Good song for this site though, don't you think? Where we always feel as if we are among friends? =)
