Limescale is a build up of deposits that are in your water and require a water softener to soften the water and remove certain minerals. it is a white powdery residue which can damage your washing machine.

Here we call it "kalk". Not very common here....more common that people never wash on 95*, and then the machines gets very dirty in the outertub.... Smells very bad!!!
