Zanussi ZWH7122J

I purchased a Zanussi Jetsystem ZWH7122J back in September this year after selling off an 8 month old Zanussi Flexi Dose ZWG7160P on Ebay.

I can't believe these two machines are from the same manufacturer. They look the same but have very diferent characteristics and components. I am glad to say that I feel the ZWH7122J satisfies my needs and the performance is excellent.

The drum is a genuine 7KG capacity (seems to be the same as the 8kg models) unlike the 7KG Flexi Dose counterpart that has a smaller drum. It is quieter when in operation too. The drawer has a Pre Wash section and is larger. The ZWH7122J uses more water for the main wash and the clothes come out spotless. Not had an issue with brown spots on the sheets like I had the with Flexi Dose one. (never found out the reason why the previous machine used to leave marks all over the sheets) Despite the Jetsystem ZWH7122J using static fills, the machine never has to refill when it does the rinse cycles. The spins start up without a problem everytime, I've not had an issue with vibration or the machine taking ages to balance the load either - it just gets on with the job. I feel the Flexi Dose models are not really a step forward and I hope that Electrolux continues to offer the Jetsystem models on the market and not phase them out completely as it would be a shame. I'm not sure if its the case or not but I think that the machine also has a split tub so if the bearing fail (which I hope they dont) the tub can be unscrewed - but I'm not sure, I only took a look on the spare parts web site and saw the tub can be purchased in 2 halves.

Most of the 21 programmes are useless to me as its only Cottons 40 or 60 that I use but may occasionally use Delicates or Handwash. Can't complain as its nice to have these options.

wow that is a big difference!! the zanussi jetsystem looks great but that flexi dose looks awful and cheap!

Rumor has it that the flexi-dose machines are made in Hungary.
The jetsystem looks far more sturdy than the flexi-Dose

Your detergent drawer is what I would consider a standard Zanussi one. My 6 year old Westinghouse badged Zanussi's is exactly the same as is my parents 8 year old Electrolux Jetsystems drawer.

As for the drums...the 'cheaper' looking drum with the filter in it is the same that we are now seeing here on Simpson badged machines - all of which come out of Thailand for our market along with the lower end Electrolux ones.

I've got the discontinued 1600 spin version (the ZWH7162J) and it is also an excellent performing machine! Have you used the Super Quick option? It's excellent and uses lots of water (and I use it all the time). Does yours have the inverter motor or the brushed motor? Also, the Synthetics 30 Super Quick cycle takes 20 minutes and is better than the Mini 30 cycle.

The Mini 30 cycle on mine appears to be nothing but a shortened wool or delicates cycle. Now, I wouldn't mind that if I could increase the spin beyond 700rpm for it....engaging 'spin hold' and then using the long spin makes it 35 minutes. Not exactly long by any stretch, but the synthetics 'cold' with 'quick' engaged is only 39 minutes and gives a 900rpm spin, which is much better when just freshening something up such as sheets that have been slept in once.

From what I can see by looking up your washers on Zanussi and Electrolux websites, it seems that the ZWH7122J is based on the previous generation Electrolux washers, whereas the ZWG7160P is based on the new generation washers (with sealed tubs and "new & improved" cost cutting).

The tell-tale sign? On the previous generation washers, you'll see three thick *vertical* bars on the side walls, whereas the new generation has several (I think it's nine) *horizontal* bars, see the PDF I've linked to. (You'll see the horizontal bars on the new AEG Protex range as well as the new Electrolux Inspiration range, to me that's a sign that the washer is likely to have a sealed tub and should therefore be avoided).

No wonder, then, that your ZWH7122J appears to be of better quality than your ZWG7160P.

This machine has a Welling brushed motor in it but its quieter than the Flexi Dose Nidec Sole motor when washing and spinning. The Flexi Dose had a more 'aggressive hum' to it and also when the machine would spin there was a horrible rough sound from the motor like the motor bearing or something. Video link of the Flexi Dose spin cycle below. The noise is at 2.00 on the video and it was pretty rough but there was no fault with the machine. Not had same noise with the Jetsystem ZWH7122J.

I have used the SuperQuick option a few times and its great. Clothes come out clean and it rinses very throughly.

I don't really like the Mini 30 and doubt I'll use it. I also dislike the fact that the spin doesn't go to the full speed. Much prefer to just use Super Quick should I need to do a shorter wash. The one annoying flaw is that the Rinse Only cycle is 54 minutes long!

Thank you for the diagram link. I wonder what the advantages are for the user having horizontal lines on the shell.

The rinse only cycle will be 3 rinses with interim spins....Do you have a rinse and spin? If not, this is where the 30 min cycle may come in handy. Engage the spin hold and then let it have a full RPM spin.

I noticed that too with the rinse only cycle. The rinse only cycle does a final spin too, but I wish you could press the super quick option and make it do a 30 min rinse, like my old Zanni did.

Heres a pic of those lines on the Flexi Dose model. I took this picture when I was waiting for the customer to collect it from my house. Looks a bit ugly in my opinion, but its only going to be hidden when under the work top I guess.
