Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I just bought some of this at Dollar General to try and I like it.  Smells good, doesn't make the towels too soft and smeary.

Spic n' Span and Mr Clean for the floors. Kaboom for the bathroom. 409, Ajax, Bar Keepers Friend for the kitchen. Endust and Old English for the furniture. Windex for the shiny surfaces. And good old fashioned ammonia. Honorable mention, Totally Awesome from Dollar Tree. Powerful cleaner and just a buck.

I really like things to be simple and I prefer using a bucket of hot, soapy water and a cotton rag to squirting cleaners everywhere and wiping (it doesn’t feel as adequate). I consistently use Mrs. Meyer’s all purpose concentrated cleaner diluted with water in a bucket, chlorine bleach, Bar Keepers Friend, Bon Ami, Sprayway glass cleaner, Murphy’s Oil Soap for wood without a polyurethane finish, Method Wood for Good for wood with a polyurethane finish, Mrs. Meyer’s dish soap, Folex for carpet stains, and Don Aslett’s foaming toilet bowl cleaner.

Off brand paper towels

Have always bought Bounty but they are getting to be high-priced, especially for the light-duty (hand drying, light spills) that most of mine get used for.

What are other people using?

I keep it pretty simple microfiber cloths for almost everything, baking soda for scrubbing, and white vinegar for cutting grease or shining glass. Hydrogen peroxide is my go-to disinfectant because it’s odorless, and a little dish soap handles greasy messes. I also keep a good multi-surface spray for quick wipe-downs.

With a fall chill in the air, it's got me thinking about Fall cleaning before the house is closed up for the heating season.

What's in your household cleaning arsenal?

In mine:

Lime-a-Way spray, Scrubbing Bubbles (can), Comet powder, Mr. Clean floor cleaner (bottle), Soft-Scrub gel, Windex, Resolve carpet spot cleaner, Hoover Platinum carpet shampoo, Dawn dish detergent, white vinegar and last but not least liquid chlorine bleach.

Anybody have any products they really like and couldn't live without?
Aside from the absence of End Dust and Persil powdered detergent (with enzymes), this sounds exactly like my cabinet! I keep it pretty classic/simple and don’t change much unless/until something effectiveness goes down with some change of formula. Now, my kingdom for a classic smelling shampoo that SUDS UP!!!!

Since you mentioned Scrubbing Bubbles...

...have you noticed that Scrubbing Bubbles Bathroom Cleaner has been discontinued?

It's now Scrubbing Bubbles Bathroom Grime Fighter and has no disinfectant properties. I assume this is part of the War on Unnecessary Germ Killing. The citrus scent "Grime Fighter", at any rate, is awful. I'm now looking for some other product to clean the bathroom.

Well CRAP. Does it at least still eat through Grime as successfully?

Household cleaners

LCB, Ammonia, Lysol Daily Cleanser, Clorox Daily Sanitizing spray, BKF, Pine Sol Lemon, Scrub Free daily shower spray, and Scrubbing Bubbles Grime Fighter. These are our 'daily' use items. One thing I did have to use recently was Liquid Plumr Hair Clog Eliminator. This stuff works like a charm.
You’re brave to use ammonia! The sent makes me too sick even before the fumes do. Plus, the way I’m easily distracted, I just KNOW it would only be a matter of time before I’d absentmindedly get too close to some freshly bleached item! Lol

In my arsenal: Just about everything you can imagine. Have been meaning go throw out some 20+ year cleaning chemicals, Pine-Sol, Lysol, that's stored in the furthest reaches under a seldom used cabinet that I had forgotten about. Funny, but ever since this whole ordeal with my Dads illness, I don't care for strongly scented cleaners anymore, and I grew up on much of them. (I do miss the old scent of SpicNSpan, that just smelled clean!)
I use, and prefer, Bon Ami powder on ceramic tile, porcelain and laminate countertops, gives it a shine that I cannot get otherwise with other cleaners. To remove calcium and heavy soap scum build-up in commodes and bathtubs, I swear by Sani-Vac, it also cleans stainless steel well. I think it's probably pretty harsh, so I use it only sparringly from time to time (it will eat tile grout). Still have chlorine bleach on hand, but scared to use it on Dad's account. Another cleaner I wouldn't want to be without is 409.

Does anyone still use Pledge polish on furniture? I use Endust on the bottom of my vacuum cleaner mops, for hardwood floors, though not crazy about the smell.

Barry
I use the endust that doesn’t have much of a scent (if any) and that doesn’t have any polishing product since I realized long ago that 1) My skin is allergic to pledge, and 2) Its oil/wax properties that make real wood look decent is pure grossness on any other kind of surface, including composite wood, which our kids’ rooms have plenty of.

Unfortunately my spouse not only still prefers it when it’s not my turn, and typically sprays it directly on everything while rather uneven wiping, leaving visible (and touchable - ick) splotches and slippery overspray on the floors. Items aren’t removed beforehand so I once found my sunglasses fully covered in pledge.

One fav I miss greatly is Watkins Organic Cleaner - I was a rep many many years ago, though I never did much with selling product - Watkins organic cleaner used to be a great concentrate - you would buy a bottle and it may last a year or two or three - I also bought the pump dispenser, so just 1 or 2 pumps in a bucket of water was what was needed - however, I had to call the 2nd owner of the company, Irwin Jacobs, and mention to him that you can't sell the product hardly - it as about 30 bucks if I remember right, and a lot of people didn't have it to invest in a future supply of cleaner. It was coconut oil based, and very gentle, gave a great shine to cabinets, paneling, etc - car washing - eventually, the dropped the concentrated formula for a premixed formula - and now you can't find that - I haven't found another similar cleaner like that - I would buy either if I could find them. Currently I use 7th Generation products, Dr. Bronners, Bon Ami - Jubilee once in a blue moon, Howards -

They've changed it since 2019 and it now has the quat disinfectant again. This kind of thing happens all the time with no notice to the consumer. You just have to read the labels.

Another change since 2019 is that it now costs about $5 per can, although Costco has had 4 for $14 or thereabouts.

Im not sure I have a favorite..I don’t favor spray on products much either. I prefer a bucket or vessel of some kind. Except I do keep vinegar in a spray bottle for glass/mirrors ect
Guess Im old school here?
LCB for toilet.
Bon Ami for somethings. BKF for others.
Hot Borax soliton.(many uses)
Hot Baking soda solution to clean inside refrigerator.
I make my own Lye Soap, so if something is greasy I’ll reach for that.
(Haven’t found anything that cuts grease better)
I do floors on my hands and knees so I can get corners and baseboards with hot bucket of water that has a little soap added.
Palmolive Free & Cleat works best for dishes. (Don’t have dishwasher)?
Liquid Gold but not the spray! The one in the can that you pour into a rag
(then throw rag out)
That’s it

Oh, cleaning 🧹 🧼? 😁 What is ble-ach? I'd like to say that two show up weekly to do it. Seriously though, Lysol disinfectant liquid concentrate, bowl cleaner, Dow scrubbing bubbles for the shower glass door and wall, tiles too. Same for the cast iron shower base. For stubborn smudges Weiman glass cooktop cleaner and polish.
Windex, for the quartz too, Endust, Parker and Bailey cabinet cream, s.s cleaner.
Soft scrub for the kitchen sink. Pledge all surface cleaner. Nuvera leather cleaner and conditioner, Parker and Bailey leather cream.
I do have a Hoover floor mate. I have used That Bona wood floor cleaner but didn't love it. I used to have a Bissell steam cleaner but it died. Lemon juice and white vinegar inside the fridge. Oven is self cleaning. Once yearly. Cast iron cooktop grates go to the high pressure car wash.
I use Capture dry carpet cleaner for area rugs. Swiffer duster and pad mop for quick cleanup. Mr. Clean liquid concentrate, not disinfectant for the car.
I need a vacation now 😭
