    Look - you DON'T have to spend $14,999 for a hi-fi!

Whirlcool I imagine your uncle bought one of GE's first solid state sets, and honestly they were nothing like their tube sets. Control knobs, escutcheons and changers were metal, the barest bit of plastics used at all. As stylish as the solid states are, you can feel the difference. I found...

Consumer Svs.- The new Rachael scam

I got a call from Teton Volkswagen in Idaho Falls, ID last week, I wonder if that's something besides trying to sell some unknown Floridian a new Volkswagen.

    A few new toys

I've always wanted a Roadmaster wagon, or sedan, they were truly the last of the big, luxurious Buicks. That wagon will do you proud, I hope you get years of happiness out of it.    And when you aren't driving, playing in the kitchen with that hunky coppertone General Electric will be just as...

    Westinghouse Stereo/Hi Fi...

Portland, Oregon really rocks MCM Houses, furnishings, the 6 leg Westinghouse console is too good to pass up, I wouldn't argue too much about the price. How many clean tube sets have you seen like that?   Here's what they say is a Westinghouse Custom Imperial tube three channel portable...

Can't find the thread on vintage electronics...

@ovrphil I have the 293C Magnasonic without the tuner, I'm thinking mine could be 1956, it has the removable head shell on the tonearm. I'd love to find the matching speaker for mine, although it would just still be expanded monaural, and upgrade the cartridge to play stereo discs.

When Magnavox entered the stereo era, you could buy the main unit already set up for stereo, it would have to be set for internal speakers only IF you never got the companion speaker/storage unit or matching television with the second channel speakers in it. You'd be able to hear all the program...

Can't find the thread on vintage electronics...

I can hear all the hair turning white as the folks here read the words "SOLID STATE STEREO" "ALL TRANSISTOR" on the control panel of the General Electric El Cortez............ dundunDUUUNNNN.............   I know from reading some audiophile opinions that the electronics of the GE are rather...

1931 Westinghouse Columnaire Interesting history and two ads for this high tech wonder from 1931. Annoying pop up ads for other things.   I like the Westinghouse/Garrard grandfather clock, General Electric had one or two in the late '60's as well. ...

A member of vintagehifi.net bought the light walnut Magnavox Danish Imperial. He lives in Durham, NC. Happy ending!

    Westinghouse Stereo/Hi Fi...

I have several hundred record albums, most of which were purchased in thrift stores. The entire lot might be worth $300, it would be a fight to get that out of them. They range from pristine to trash, the trash being purchased for musical content, not appearance. Our mom got an RCA Victor/Breck...

    Magnavox concert grand remote

You're welcome, ladyk! But remember, I stole that idea off a console collector site and passed it on! I am glad it worked for you too!

To whom it may concern There are no fools here, only people who have likes and preferences. My complaints are with people I've had face to face contact with, who REFUSE to consider finding something I've dearly wanted for years and years, because it's garbage to THEM. My main system has a...

    Westinghouse Stereo/Hi Fi...

I like these things for what they are, I won't apologize anymore for playing records on an Astro-Sonic, a Westinghouse, a Zenith Circle of Sound, an RCA Victor New Vista, a Truetone, a Sylvania, Philco, Airline, Penncrest, whatever. As long as it delivers clear sound and doesn't trash your...

    Westinghouse Stereo/Hi Fi...

I think General Electric bought Glaser-Steers and used them for their own doctored up changers. I think the first ones after VM and Garrard were fairly decent, then when they started cheapening everything, forget it.    Get your Westinghouse stereo console. Surely you have room for it, okay...
