The original 22.5 volt 412 (Eveready or replacement)battery is still available online but expensive. Has anyone tried using two A23 12 volt batteries in place? Will the extra 1.5 volts hurt the remote?
I suggest you try the site vintagehifi.net with your question, if no one here has a solution. I have a much newer remote that a repairman replaced the oddball battery with a little 9 volt transistor radio battery. Works like a charm.
I assume not all Concert Grands use the same remote, certainly not the last of them from the early 1970's, but if it's one of these rare RF remotes like I have I'd get as much info as I could before using different batteries. Unless you use the remote frequently I'd spring for the original battery. As I have mentioned on here before, the people at the Yahoo group Magnavox Friends are very knowledgeable and helpful about all things Magnavox.
A friend in Tennessee sent me this remote for my CG. It was in the original box and was never used. Being a coward I would not try using different batteries, even at close to the correct voltage.
Here's one answer lifted off vintagehifi.net. It was copy and paste.
anyways what i did since the EverReady 412 is hard to find plus its expensive plus its probably been sitting on a shelf forever.
i got a lot of cr2032 ( c mos battery for computer ) i stacked 6 or 7 of these 3v cells to get it close to the 22.5V. then heat shrink wrap goes around the batterys. next buy a dual D cell battery holder cut out the spring terminals out. the remote contacts have holes so i used small hardware to attach the spring terminals which does not alter the remote from orginal! note the polarity of the newly made battery pack pop it in and enjoy!!! Thank you for the great link and advice! I "built" a battery using the 2032 button cells and voila! Works like a charm. Thank you again! (and to all who posted)
Just a tip... I needed a 2032 battery for a much newer remote but was stopped by the $5-6 price. I was at Microcenter and they have them by the checkout for $.69! Bought a few.
I have bought a few of those batteries from the dollar store. Don't stock pile them. I've found that when I buy them ahead, by the time I go to use them, they are dead.
