    Asbestos in Classic Dryers?

Radon's also easy as heck to deal with - vent the house. Interesting aside - the whole radon thing started after a worker at the Limerick nuclear plant in PA came in one day and on the way in tripped the scanner they use at such plants. Needless to say, an investigation was launched, and it...

    Get Out the Vote!

It was easy for me, 5 minutes (not even) Enter with the two magic numbers on my registration card, saying where to go. Go to the right table, sign book. Enter machine, flip levers, pull big red lever, leave. A lot of idiots couldn't figure out what table to go ("uh, I thought you just show...

    Anyone like top loaders?

I keep wondering if the chick next door's a bottom loader or a top loader. Or maybe both. I should investigate but I think she's already taken :(

A GE Filter Flo noise question.

Get a GE 2 speed clutch. IIRC, all GE 2 speeds are the same. They get noisy, but they'll work like that forever.

    GAS CRISIS!!!

Ahhh, the joys of living in New Jersey ;) Plentiful, $3.25 or less, and THEY FILL THE TANK FOR YOU! Everyone laughs about this state being full of refineries. Look who's laughing now >:)

Westinghouse Front Loaders on Long Island

    A physics question~

You're getting closer - the California was was the (in)famous SRE reactor. It could put power to the grid, though as a bonus, it was an experiment, really. But it's successor was designed from day one as a power plant, and it didn't have a containment, either. Anyone know what plant that was...

    A physics question~

Yeah Westinghouse's PWR runs at about 2X the pressure of GE's design. Westinghouse also pioneered the concept of the containment - Shippingport had one. GE of course had one too - the VBWR (I think that was actually power reactor license #1!) had something close, Dresden had the stylish (but...

"Laundry Type" Heh, I bet one of those is a drop in replacement!

    A physics question~

Oyster Creek, actually Nine Mile is the other plant of it's type (BWR/2) in the US. They have a certain distinction among currently operating (hint, hint) plants in the US. OC is known for something else - it's was GE's first 'turn key' nuke plant. Just about everything prior to it was a...

    A physics question~

Oh it's a BWR, but it's special (there's another unit out there in the US like it, it's special too) for a few reasons.

    A physics question~

Meanwhile, about 80 miles south of me, in a big concrete box by the water, there's a vat of very pure water circulating at around 1,000 psi, with a bit of it boiling at around 500+ degrees, as it cools a few thousand metal tubes sitting in it. The steam's going off the spin a turbine, then it'll...

    Introducing the semi-automatic WO-65...

Frankly, that spin solenoid looks like a pretty common industrial type, and I bet you could even take it apart and rewind it, if it's bad. Years ago, a lot of stuff, seals, o rings, bearings, were (and usually still ARE) catalog items. So the 'genuine parts' you buy might just be someone else's...

Haier Denies Rumors Regarding Buying GE's Appliance Division

What a surprise, GE whoring themselves out to China, again. Seriously, could the GE of current PLEASE go away and the old 'Bring Good Things To Life' days come back? About the only "Imagination at work" at GE these days is imagining how much money they'll make by moving everything to China...

Very Sad Day for the 56 Mobile Maid

Is the pump impeller fastened to the T shaft? You know, the shaft itself looks simple, and I bet a machine shop could make a new one, if a good drawing existed, or even using the existing one as a pattern. A good machinist is a great thing. A for heating - I wonder if a 'soaking' in an oven...
