    Our "new" old microwave!

Nice to see I'm not the only one who appreciates these old beasts. I have had a few Sharp Carousel microwaves and have always found them very robust and well-made. If you take care of yours it will likely last a while longer yet. Microwaves of this vintage were all very sturdy and it's a shame...

Who's heard of a Hitachi Fridge?

Japanese fridges Obscure Japanese fridges are reasonably common here in Australia (Mitsubishi Electric, Sharp and Panasonic all make fridges available to purchase). They cool really well and get rave reviews but for some of them, the layout can be a little strange. Was looking at one in a...

    Wait, reviewed.com knows us?

I think the operator of that machine has selected a second rinse option or some other addition to the cycle. Using the normal wash cycle with a single full tub rinse my SQ takes approximately 37 minutes from start to finish, including fill times.

Laundry: How Many Loads Per Week In Your Household?

Interesting to hear about everyone's laundry habits, it seems I am doing much more laundry than most of you. I live by myself and I do around 6 loads per week in my SQ top loader as I have oily skin and can't get away with wearing clothing, using pillowcases etc. more than once. Bath sheets I...

10 year old Speed Queen Spin Noise - Ideas???

Chirring or howling? Speed Queen machines do make some odd noises at times. Pretty much my whole fleet of Queens (15 coin op machines and my personal home washer) make the 'chirring' noise as described above and that can be easily corrected by lubricating the idler pulley. Some of my older...

Classic UK Appliances - April 2016

Really interesting to see offerings from the mother country and some different designs. Love the stainless kettles and those kitchen units. People here keep those 'built under' fridges for the purpose of keeping drinks cold or buy them for college dorms and not much else (we call them bar...

i wish modern top loads and modern front loads of today would bring back the hot water wash with war

I am not a warm water freak and believe that all water temperatures have their place in the right wash. For me, a warm rinse is important for things made of pure wool. I also like to use a warm rinse when washing very dirty or oily things, or things like blankets that hold a lot of wash water. I...

    Air drying

Admittedly, all of my wash is electric dried, all of the time. I don't mind paying the relatively small amount of money it costs to run my dryer each year. I grew up very poor where owning a clothes dryer was unheard of, there's no way I am dragging my clean clothes outdoors to soak up pollen...

    Cuisinart 5.5 quart Stand mixer

Bosch Universal vs KA I have a Bosch Universal and a KitchenAid heavy duty tilt head model (Artisan?). The Bosch is quite old now and the KitchenAid is a couple of years old. The Bosch Universal is a marvellous mixing device - much stronger and more powerful than the KitchenAid, but I find it a...

(Lenor) Unstoppables made it to Germany!

Outdoor fresh Mrboilwash there is also a Bounce version of these called 'Bounce Bursts' that is the exact outdoor fresh scent in pellet form. I love the Bounce outdoor fresh scent.

(Lenor) Unstoppables made it to Germany!

I doubt you'd ever need to use a whole cap full in a European style washer. I rarely use a full cap in my top loader and I still get a noticeable scent after it comes out of the dryer. It would be only with a full load of towels that I might use a full cap. They do last quite a while - I have a...

(Lenor) Unstoppables made it to Germany!

I get the big bottles of the 'fresh' Downy Unstoppables and it is by far my favourite scent. I don't use it with liquid softener but it is great for a boost of freshness when I'm not using it, or when I'm using dryer sheets. The scent really does last a while afterwards. It is very similar to...

    SQ TL or GE FL?

SQ top loaders I have a SQ top loader in my home and absolutely love it. It doesn't beep, rattle, or go out of balance (ever). It washes and rinses thoroughly, without any hesitation. I have used SQ equipment extensively for many years, they are very robust appliances, and I find the new...

We're using way too much laundry detergent, and here's why

Admittedly I have been guilty of this from time to time. It's just a habit from back before powder detergents were concentrated, and a full measuring cup of powder was needed. Somewhere in the back of my head I don't trust a tiny scoop of detergent to thoroughly clean a full load of wash...

    Siemans

2.5 hr dryer times and 5 hour wash times???!!! You're not serious, surely? How on earth does anyone in Europe get all their washing done?
