Hi all. My A408 needs a motor. If I change the motor to the new whirlpool model 12002351, is that going to change the famous Maytag rhythmic "hmm hmm" sound they are famous for- or does that sound come from the transmission? Thank You

Robbie I agree completely. We have 2 pugs that sleep with us. They get bathed once a week and are indoor dogs. Still- sheets are washed every other day & duvet cover once a week. They deserve to be as comfortable as we are, but I don't want the hair or any smells in the bed. Nothing wrong...

Stopped washing and draining. Found belt broken, so I replaced it & it washed and drained fine through 2 cycles. Did notice that during drain there was a sort of whining noise coming from motor or pump- not sure? Then it seemed to struggle pumping and quit. Belt seems to move the pulleys ok...

I may not have stated it very well in my original post. I would pay a high price (something that a lot of people do everyday for things that aren't built half as well)to buy that Maytag 806 machine brand new today. I mean made today by Maytag in Newton with exactly the same materials- not NOS...

While in my laundry room today (using my vintage Maytag machines) I thought to myself " I'd pay $1500-2000 for a brand new 806 set if I could buy them-over anything else made today". Anyone else share the same thoughts about their favorite vintage machines?

glenfieldmathk1 and logixx- I have noiced that smaller loads (no matter what they are comprised of) in the "tilted" Siemens Ultra Sense do work better. I can wash more in the Bosch Axxis+ without any issues... funny since it's almost 1 1/2 cu ft smaller. My Mom's Duet seemed to have no issues...

qualin - If I would buy a new top loader for myself today- this would be it. 300c- yes I agree- the controls look simple and since this is the laundromat version, I suppose it would be durable. Closest thing to my vintage A407- minus the long stroke agitation. Nothing else on the market today...

Does anyone know- from an engineering standpoint- if it is more difficult to balance a load of wash in a front loader with a tilted drum vs a true horizontal axis drum?

Does anyone have an opinion of or experience with this machine? This would be my choice of top loader.

Does anyone know where I can purchase door parts for this unit? Specifically the glass door insert and the clear plastic outer cover for the glass door. I have gone to repairclinic and a-1appliance and appliancepros....no luck yet. Thank You. Joe

Tom Thanks for the advice. The dryer is a "big load" Maytag DG series (something or other) model. All I know is it matches my A407 control panel & is in nice shape.
