washer enthusiasts: what's your choice of vacuum?

I think it's hard to generalise about "European" anything to be honest. There's a huge difference between housing sizes and types from one country to the next. Some countries preferring dense, city/town based apartment living (Spain for example), others like Ireland for example, being the...

    I Cut The The Cord!

We're a little spoiled for choice of really good channels here. If you do 'cut the cord' a small satellite dish will pick up a very large range of free to sure very high quality content mostly from the UK. However, there is no way I'm cutting it. My 200Mbit/s internet comes bundled with cable...

Wine Glasses in the Lower Rack.

Crystal shouldn't be washed in a machine because it can't handle temperature shocks. Most cycles include pretty hot water. Also residual heat drying cycles common on Euro machines will risk cracking crystal. You might get away with it on a cool wash with a top of the line detergent. However...

Wine Glasses in the Lower Rack.

It's just clear vinegar with a very high level of acetic acid. You could try cleaning your glasses with balsamic but... might get a bit sticky *lol* Any type of vinegar or lemon juice would do the job. Just leave the glass soaking in it for a few minutes and if the cloudiness disappears, it's...

Wine Glasses in the Lower Rack.

There's absolutely no way that enzymes could cause glass to etch. The most likely culprits are base ingredients that are creating alkali wash solution. That will definitely etch glass. I suspect that the better products that don't etch are much better buffered and maintain the correct pH...

    KENWOOD VS KITCHEN AID

There's a good review and comparison of both machines on this blog http://misspatisse.wordpress.com/tag/kenwood/

    Credaplan

Possibly a more expensive model also if it's semi-integrated into a built-in kitchen or laundry you really don't want the machine shaking your cabinets!

Americans Purchasing European Detergents - Henkel Has Sniffed Us Out

I'm not a huge fan of over-scented detergents myself, particularly anything very floral scented. I tend to stick to Persil and use ecover fabric softener. That's available in zero scent versions. Unilever Persil is relatively mildly scented compared to its competitors. I find Ariel has been...

    Hello from the UK

Welcome! I just drop in and out when I'm genuinely looking for information and I'm more of a marketing geek. I stumbled upon this site when I was doing research for an undergraduate course and oddly enough detergents are one of the classics of marketing case studies. Other than that, it's been...

Americans Purchasing European Detergents - Henkel Has Sniffed Us Out

Persil (in the UK and Ireland), Skip (France and Spain and a few other places) are Unillever's top of the line detergents. Nothing to do with P&G. Persil (UK/IRL) and Skip (F) seem to be pretty much identical products. P&G's top of the line in Europe are Ariel and in some markets Dash or Tide.

Americans Purchasing European Detergents - Henkel Has Sniffed Us Out

That statement is nothing to do with consumers at all. It's a legal thing because Henkel may have US companies traded on a stock market there and it is ensuring that any statement on that website cannot be construed as a statement by any Henkel entity in the USA. It's quite common for...

    Persil Dishwasher pods

I guarantee you someone will be confused and put two of those into their washing machine :D

    New miele washer and dryer

@launderess The vast majority of buildings aren't Hausmann areas of Paris or protected structures. Situations like that are pretty much special cases. Apartment buildings obviously have issues if you don't own the external walls of the building. However, your typical suburban home, doesn't...

    New miele washer and dryer

It's a pity they're not doing a vented option on the dryer though. Is heat-pump condensing really that much more efficient than vented? I don't really understand why all the manufacturers are so obsessed with condensing dryers. Core-drilling a hole in the wall of your house isn't THAT big a...

    Persil Dishwasher pods

They still most definitely have Sun here in Ireland and I find it an absolutely excellent dishwasher detergent. It cleans as good as / better than Finish Quantum and it's phosphate free which is a big deal if you live in an area where phosphates can ultimately end up in lake water as they...

What Is Your Water Consumption Footprint?

Irish household (2 person) Here's how our household did on that survey. The water consumption is being estimated as lower, we average 152L per day here per person and I know from our own consumption ours is higher than that again. Also, compared to a typical US household we would have a lot...

how is this supposed to clean your laundry

A lot of these V-axis high efficiency machines look like they could be extremely rough on clothes. I can't really see how that action would clean anything to be honest. I think when you're getting down to those levels of water, you really need to start moving to H-axis.

    P&G again considers cheaper Tide

They seem to have done that with Ariel in Spain. There's a basic version along side all the other versions of P&G products. However, I'd have to say that in Spain there's also pretty fierce competition on the detergent shelves and P&G isn't really anywhere near as dominant as it is in the US...
