totally dulled the beautiful and until then mint aluminum

:O a detergent shouldn't been able to do that. Just as well as I never used my Cheer

I got 2 bottles Cheer with Bounce/Febreze liquid, that must be around 5 years old, can't use it though as cannot connect my TL machine as only have space for the main FL, and the Cheer is non HE.

I wonder if Ocean Breeze has replaced Breath of Fresh Air?

Another thing that annoys me, Lenor UK website, never shows their entire range of softeners. There are always variants that do not appear on their site.

Lenor new range

So let me clear that up for you: Lenor has changed the complete range but has not updatet the website yet. For example breath of fresh air is now ocean escape. Scent is basically the same with only some very small changes. I know that scent, I have it here but still with the old name. It is so strong, I don't like it. However there are persons in that household that do like it, so I use it here and there.

The picture below shows the new range but they just have shiftet the names and the design. The fragrances have only changed a very little. Lenor sais they have refined their fragrances. Don't be confused by the German names, but I don't have a picture for the English versions.

I am a scentaholic laundry wise as well :-)

Have to change scent families often from fruity to floral to fresh and so on otherwise get used to it and don`t notice any longer.

On a side note I`ve got the impression that the average European guy usually isn`t bothered by girly laundry scents on his clothes at all.
Not everything has to smell like cheap after shave to be accepted by European men.

I wonder if this might have something to do with homophobia in general and confidence about one`s sexuality.

Louis I know what you mean about nausea.
The original scent of Softlan (Suavitel) and the blue Lenor Aprilfrisch give me headaches for some reason. Can`t use them although I don`t find them unpleasant at all.
Not every scent is bearable for everyone and some prefer no scent at all.

But let`s not forget that homophobia is not only a problem of societies in general but also within gay communities.

I`m just thinking about all those straight "acting" ones in online profiles or statements from gays like "I don`t want to smell like a french whore"
I find it funny that most heterosexuals that I know are happy with whatever scent their wife or girlfriend prefers.
Sorry for getting a little off topic.

What has left the most scent for me is perfume oil. I bought it at a pharmacy from a company called Spinnrad. They sell natural cosmetics and soaps (the individual ingredients), food, tea and so forth. They even have enzymes, water softeners, bleaches and all that so you can make your own detergent. Anyway, the product I'm using is called Spinnrad Softexa. You add 10 to 20 drops to the softener dispenser and that's it - although one should add warm water to the dispenser and stir everything well. Softener can be added.

Laundry Product Scents and Human Health

One likes laundry to have a pleasant whiff after washday as the next person, but today's Frankenscented products are pushing far.

Perfumes that not only cling to washing after subsequent rinsing, tumble drying and remain for several days or weeks afterwards cannot be good for human health. It simply not natural and that goes for whatever fixative is used as well.

Have spoken before of the nasty stench from the box of Bounce dryer sheets one acquired. Well recently noticed the stuff not only heavily scented each of the three closed Ziploc bags it was encased within, but the entire "rag sack" we had put the thing into that resides in the cleaning closet. Indeed one came to know this fact when went to do a bit of ironing last night. Noticed the ironing board bad and cover had a decided whiff about them. At first thought it was the scent from whatever detergent was used to launder what had been ironed previously. It took awhile to realize that was not the case at all. But that darned box of Bounce had scented the aforementioned rag sack, which sat next to the ironing board. Like a sachet the latter was scented by the former.

It was then one took action!

Removed and chucked the Ziploc bags as they were now useless (too infested with the Bounce scent), and found a discarded empty chocolate tin. Shoved the Bounce box into this and as if sealing a vampire in it's coffin shut the lid tightly and sealed with duct tape.

Any perfumed items that release fragrance to an extent that things used to hold them become so impregnated with scent that a mere touch has it rubbing off on one's hands, is foul.

Skin is the largest organ on the human body, so think what one is exposed to and absorbing by wearing/using items coated in these scents. It is also worth noting when persons are studied by blood essay for various chemicals normally a whole laundry list of things comes up. This even for young children. Small wonder even corpses not embalmed take decades to rot away totally. We are all that full of various chemicals so even the natural process of decomposition is retarded.

Thank you Laundress, I appreciate your offer to keep on the lookout, but a bottle of either product would have to be selling at a more resonable price for most of us. For now, anytime I want to experience the simple pleasure of Rose & Violet, I will just go downstairs and uncap a bottle to take a sniff. I wonder if there is an essential oil or some fragrance similar to it? It was the only one of the Simple Pleasures for Simple Minds that I liked. I think there was one in a purple bottle, too, but I did not like its smell as well.

Scents vs Clean laundry

I am currently using USA Tide and Downy, and I completely agree that US detergent isn't as strong as some UK detergents.

I'm using half dose of the product, as feel it cleans and smells great with this dose.

But... I did a load of laundry the other day, and it didn't get dried as quick as it should, and it smelt awful - wet fousty smell.

So feels like we are stuck between scents are bad for us and laundry not smelling clean.

I wonder if US Bounce is the same as our UK Bounce we used to have? As that was really strong. I've got some Downy sheets and they don't smell that strong at all to me. Can anybody from the US confirm if Downy sheets are not as strong as Bounce over there?

I don't belive that they are...

However, I think the purpose of the Downy sheets, was to use the exact same scent as the fabric softener, to double the "scent" ;) Unfortunately, if your washer really rinses well enough, the Downy scent will be mostly gone, and the tumble drying will kill it off completely, plus the sheets aren't all the scent packed, so, you just end up with soft sheets :P

Bounce, yeah, it's fairly strong. I've noticed that if one places them in a drawer, they'll scent everything in the drawer placed, and the aligning bottom drawer, and the scent will "stick".. You'll be able to smell it for days after being pulled out of the drawer.

If used for there actual purpose (in the tumble dryer) I've been able to smell a light, nice, scent for a few minutes, but it quickly dissipates.

It's the closest I've ever came to scented laundry... ;)

I almost forgot..

I found these lovely things, in storage the other day ;)

One wonders why they never advertised "Dermatologist approved or recommended" instead of "Dermatologist Tested..."?

Thank you

Thanks Mich for clearing that up. We don't have Bounce anymore - it changed around 2 years ago, to "Lenor" dryer sheets - I assume to match our liquid softener of the same name. Lenor is basically the same as Downy, just a different name. I had heard at one time, they were going to change the Lenor brand to Downy over here in the UK, then they dropped it?

I would love Lenor to release the US version of April Fresh - best smell in the world.

I should just move to the US for the detergents ;)

We don't have

Technically, "April Fresh" anymore :( P&G fiddled with the forumla, back in 2010 or so, and changed it to a new scent, with scent "beads" to supposedly last longer. The new scent, isn't any stronger, and they still haven't reverted to the old formula.

However, if you go to Big Lots, or Ollies, or Close Out stores, and see any Pink (Breast Cancer Awareness) bottles of Downy, you can find the old, treasured scent ;)

I myself, personally, really like the "Clean Breeze" scent from the newer line. It's a different scent, but, I do like it.

I'm not a huge fan of over-scented detergents myself, particularly anything very floral scented.

I tend to stick to Persil and use ecover fabric softener. That's available in zero scent versions.

Unilever Persil is relatively mildly scented compared to its competitors. I find Ariel has been through phases of being way too scented.

I miss the previous version of Persil here though which had very little scent at all.
