    Ariel, with Purezyme

Apparently Ariel Liquid and Ariel Gel now contain a new enzyme called 'Purezyme'. It appears to be a phosphodiesterase, and the action of this enzyme seems to 'unstick' soiling. The gel format seems to have a total of six enzymes: Protease, Phosphodiesterase, Amylase, Lyase, Cellulase...

When you try your best and you don't succeed - Bosch DW

I wonder if you could get the Bosch fixed under the dishwasher safety recall? https://productsafety.bsh-group.com/de/de/dishcare

When you try your best and you don't succeed - Bosch DW

Could they not just pull the old Bosch machine out, and swap the Beko into its position?

    Dishwasher Pre Wash

Auto sensor programmes The first generation of these were pretty hit and miss. My Bosch which always did a prerinse, recently decided not to do so on its 'auto normal' cycle. It also has a nasty habit of washing in lukewarm temperatures. Drying can be a tad spotty, leaving watermarks on...

    Disappearing Cotton Eco Cycles?

Night-time electricity tariffs I've lived in a few places with 'Economy 7' (also known as 'white meter' in general parlance). Basically an electro-mechanical clock clunked over to record the cheaper rates at 11:30pm-12:30am (yes, 1 whole hour), then back again to normal rate for the next hour...

Increasingly Long Wash Cycle Times & Fabric Wear

Isn't it the case that automatic front loading machines in years gone by, tended to wash in a greater amount of water, more gently, i.e. less actual time revolving the drum; more time standing still? I think the daft EU regulations have caused the machine manufacturers to increase tumble times...

Increasingly Long Wash Cycle Times & Fabric Wear

Yes, I've seen wear/shedding of lint in my Panasonic. Typically the Cottons 60°C programme lasts about 2hrs 30mins. Depending upon which powder detergent is used - and how much - sometimes a head of foam sits halfway up the door glass. I have seen lint in the foam deposited on the door glass...

what is the best dishwasher detergent for kitchenaid dishwashers?

I tried, just out of general interest, another small packet of P&G's 'Fairy All-in-One', 16 pods. Just to see whether the P&G formulation has improved. It hasn't. A full load of dirty dishes, crockery, cutlery, and pots and pans. The machine still foams up... the spray arms and pump struggle...

    British Twintub Washing Machines 1959 - 1990

'Electromatic' twin tub Seems to predate the acquisition of Rolls Razor; no mention of 'Rolls' or 'Rolls Razor', or 'Rolls Electromatic'. Pic courtesy of Etsy, allegedly from a 1950's magazine.

    German / Dutch Twin Tub

I wonder, I wonder... I wonder whether that 'Come' twintub should actually be 'Comet'? Look at the stylised 'C'. It has the star and the comet tail. Perhaps the 't' snagged on something and snapped off.

Es Lebt. Es Lebt! Meiner waschmaschine Lavamat Toplader

Ah, good - well done with your perseverance. And welcome to the world of longer programme times - not terribly pleasant, is it? I wonder though, whether that 'Cottons 40°-60°C Mix' programme is really an Eco cycle in disguise? Try the standard Cottons 40°C, or Cottons 60°C instead... the...

Rowen twin tub According to Al's 'Which? 1964', (from the lengthy DUOMATIC twin tub thread), says: "The ROWEN, made by Easiclene, and similar to the EASICLENE EASITWIN, was also sold in certain shops as the INSTAMATIC." https://www.automaticwasher.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-VIEWTHREAD.cgi?73450

    Vintage Appliance Advertisements: Part Twenty-one

Guineas could also work in your favour. Say for instance, that you were negotiating a job whereby the contractor wanted to, say, pay you fifty pounds as payment. But you stipulated guineas. That would make it fifty pounds and fifty shillings (there being twenty shillings to the pound), which...

Hotpoint/Indesit/Whirlpool dryer recall - Found an affected dryer!

I still can't believe that Indesit/Hotpoint allowed it to get to this stage in the first place. A responsible manufacturer would have taken notice of the faults early on, and modified accordingly. They didn't, and actively allowed dangerous machines to go on sale. Not just the deadly tumble...

1979 Ideal Home magazine Boo! They've dumbed that down... no mention of the recommended detergents, although the main text does mention Sun's anti-tarnish properties.

    Hoover AutoJet and SupaJet

Ideal Home magazine in 1978 Aha! - the 'recommended detergents'... I see from squinting at the uploaded pages, that the Swanmaid recommends 'Hygleam' detergent. The Colston recommends Colston's own. The Indesit recommends 'Finish' or 'Bio Finish', most of the others recommend either 'Sun' or...
