About the issue of money, to get a barely comparable new dishwasher, you'd have to spend nearly $1k. If it costs $200 to fix, it would still be worth it versus buying new. Even cheap new ones aren't that cheap.

You cannot replace the tub seal? If you obtain one, could you find a service person to install it? Perhaps a handy friend or relative.

Another issue is people's fascination with SS tubs, porcelain coated steel tubs had no direct metal to metal contact for many years before the porcelain enamel began to fail. If the tub were all porcelain coated, there would be no metal to metal contact, just metal to porcelain. Were W&WW...

I was referring to Whirlpool belt-drive washers. Frigidaires have a very impressive spin.

Oh, indeed, one definitely has to keep the various options in mind, I simply added that because unlike many solid tub machines from the '50s and '60s, these did get large capacity options, I should add that DDs are large too.
