    Hot plates!

Toastmaster Buffet Range This used to be great on road trips, but it's been years since I took a road trip, and years since I've used this hotplate. Until yesterday! I used it in the garage to boil paint off some old hinges. Avoids stinking up the kitchen that way.

    Pencil sharpeners

In 1966 I had a pencil sharpener like the ones mentioned in the OP, in the shape of Lincoln's head. One day I took it to kindergarten and I think one of my classmates stole it. Also used to have a hand-crank one made to look like an old hand-crank telephone. Now I have one shaped like a little...

My Early Maytag A806 Rework Progress

At what point is a damper unusable Mine looked and felt rough at first but it was mostly stuck on crud that I was able to clean off. It's not like new but I think it will last many more years with proper lubrication. You might want to try cleaning yours unless it is worse than it looks in the...

A806 washer Installed new tub bearing & seal - spin cycle is off balance ???

Is the 1/2 pound weight supposed to stay in place over the counterweight after a full speed spin and stop? If you did this procedure what did you use for a weight? My first thought was maybe a damp towel would work.

    Laundromat adventures

Just in the past few months my local laundromat replaced about 10 top-load Maytags with Huebsch machines. Last month they replaced the remaining 10 or so TL Whirlpools, as well as all the old dryers, with Huebsch brand. The old large machines were recently replaced as well, and the walls were...

    Antique cars,~1929-earlier...

Oldest car I ever drove was a 1919 Dodge. But I'm not nearly that old -- it was around 1990. The car was in really rough shape, bad brakes, smashed dashboard, torn seats, pieces of wood stuck in the engine block to plug leaks, etc. I doubt that we ever went over 5 MPH, but WOW what fun it was...

Amazon’s strange product review censorship software

Strange censorship Something similar happened to me recently on Facebook. I decided to post my first ad on Marketplace and was soon blocked from even looking at any ads on FM, because for some unexplained reason my ad did not meet Community Standards. Well I just let it go like that for about...

    Maytag HDE 806 timer questions

As for the timer, it doesn't have one It uses sensors mounted on the baffles and an electronic circuit to sense the dampness in the clothes. With the dryer empty and the dial set to DAMP DRY it should turn off in less than 20 seconds. Give this a try. Otherwise maybe something is shorted out.

Hoover 26 rescued from the curb today

The motor runs, tho the belt isn't very good, and the light doesn't light. But of course it looks great, very nice condition, tho not all original. The box appears to contain all the original attachments, in excellent condition, including a mint condition Mothimizer. As for the hose though, it...

    Power Outages-

First thing I do when the power goes out is unplug the fridge. I asked my elderly dad to please do the same and he scoffed. "I'm not moving the fridge to pull the plug blah blah blah...." I said, you have a circuit breaker labeled FRIDGE don't you? Yeah. Well flip it off. Of course he never did...

    Maytag A806 Tune Up

Overflowing suds might have left their marks on the tub. I'm happy to hear there are no leaks! That's a good question about oiling the motor. I don't see a practical way to do it and if there was I think it would say so in the service manual, but it doesn't.

    Maytag A806 Tune Up

Maybe check the water pump Oil the bearing and see that the pulley turns freely, See step 7 below. You don't need to disassemble the pump, just remove the screw and put some turbine oil in there. If the pump doesn't turn freely it may need replacing.

Let's Talk About That Other Way Of Keeping Cool - Fans!

My old Patton with the rotating grill, probably from the 1980's, is running right now. It's quiet and just enough to keep a little air moving in the office. My elderly parents gave it to me a few years ago because it quit running, but it was just a stuck motor shaft that needed oiling. They...
