    Corning smooth top and canning?

using old canning instructions It is certainly true that everyone did not die from old canning practices, but as someone else said ... it's like seat belts and air bags, when you didn't get into an accident you were fine but when you did, oh oh. Jams and pickles...okay you're not going to get...

    Government intrusions

I thought tsp WOULD help... ...but STPP is better. Yes? Dunno I've used STPP but not TSP.

    Government intrusions

so what? Is it not true that modern detergents do not work? Yes, it is true. Is there not a meddlesome agency that says 'thou shalt not!' on almost anything that works? It is so. What is your point, Turbomatic, that increasing statism is good? Or that you like filthy clothes and dishes?

    Corning smooth top and canning?

Cast aluminum pressure cookers A data point: I have an All American Pressure Canner. Their manual explicitly states NOT to use it on a glass smooth top. I inquired as to why, and they told me that the canner, when full, is heavy, so they cannot suggest it. My electric stove is a modern...

    A true company that cares

Looking at the website... ...the quality of the pans looked as good as Fissler ones -- which were the best quality saucepans I had ever seen before that. Awesome!

    A true company that cares

Kansas I looked at the Vita Craft website. It's in Kansas. That probably explains it. I find the people of Colorado to be really nice and friendly -- and the people of Kansas make the folks of Colorado seem downright unfriendly! Looks like great cookware :)

What, no Google Doodle for Telstar's 50th anniversary?

actually, AT&T committed suicide in my opinion. Bell Labs had been spun off with Lucent Technologies before SBC bought the corpse of the old AT&T. It pains me to this day to see what has happened to one of the best (maybe the best) R&D organization this planet has ever produced. I worked at...

    Home Grinders

Yes, that is what I saw in west mass too Yes, the 'granulated' is what we had in western Mass as well. It's also what we have here in Colorado, also. Demerara sugar! I brought back 3kg last time I went to UK; at 99p/kg it was FAR cheaper than what we get here!! (and this was in a Waitrose in...

    Home Grinders

Super Fine... Interesting I bet that is what Domino says too. But, in Mass, it said FINE. Here, we don't have Domino. I didn't realize anyone in particular does regional variations anymore. @mattl: My wife says the same thing. The beet sugar doesn't taste as sweet and to her, has an after...

Who's going to be the first to buy it? Daewoo DWD-M301WP

i could see this... ...in an RV/Caravan. Of course, there are technical problems since RVs run on 30A/120V or 50A/110V in the USA (no doubt 230 in Europe). But if it doesn't consume more than (say) 10 amps you could use a 110->220 converter :) Then again given how flimsy most RVs are a wall...

    Home Grinders

Grinders and Superfine sugar I STILL Use my grinder (though mine is an attachment to my KM). My wife finds that ALL hamburg makes her sick. We suspect that it is the cleaning products that are required to be used on surfaces and grinding machines. If we buy a chunk of beef from Costco or...

Why did they only wash on Mondays????

Burn days True, every day was a burn day. I was thinking of more recent history but, of course, Monday-wash day predates that. The 1900 house was truly fascinating. Since I think more episodes were broadcast in the UK, I wish I could see the British edition. But even the condensed PBS...

Why did they only wash on Mondays????

It also depends on what day folks burn Where I live, houses used to have (probably until the 1970s) their own incinerators. You burned on 1-2 days / week so that it didn't make everyone's laundry smell foul. So that might contribute to a 'wash day.' Now, of course, we say 'Wash day? Just...

Kneaded a Brauny Helper for Bread

Now I have to ask... ...is that Braun mixer a rebadged Kenwood? Or is it just a similar, good design?

    Todays steal for £20.00

I LOVE old Kenwoods I have a Kenwood Major, that was rebranded as Rival. I love it. (It's a KM400? with a 7 litre bowl). It was British built with a motor that was either UK or Japan made, I can't remember. Jeez I've had it for 20 years now. It works very well.

I'm not a huge fan of ground glass... ...but the cost is also a factor.

I'm bored and why is butter yellow?

Dairy protein allergy I have an allergy to whey - dairy protein. I LOVE butter, but, alas, cannot have it any longer. There are two - two! - margarines that I have been able to find; Fleishman's UNSALTED margarine and Nucoa. Everything else has whey in it.
